One man's trash is another man's...PX-10!
Yep , found this one pushed out to the curb along with a CyclePro steel MTB (which has a new life as a single speed thanks to the long horizontal dropouts).
The bike was covered in a patina of 20 years of neglect, nothing that a little polish, elbow grease a few new bits couldn't remedy. I added new cloth bar wrap, cables and tires and here's what she looks like. The original derailleur was swapped out to a SunTour ARX long ago and the brakes are also non original DiaCompe.
1981 Super Competition I believe.

Did you actually find it in that condition? If so, amazing for you, and I would hate to meet the guy who would buy a nice bike like that, let it sit, and then throw it away! gah that's like preserving a piece of artwork for a hundred years in an attic and then using it for toilet paper some day when you run out.

What is the serial number? The decals certainly do resemble those of my 1980 PKN-10.

Your PKN10 "Competition" is the closest sibling in the line-up, Mine is the "Super Competition" and came with tubulars. Maybe Poquemon or T-Mar will post up with a definitive date for mine.
The paint is in excellent condition, the whole bike for that matter, except for a scratch on the top tube on the left side and some scuffing on the saddle.
The funny thing is that I was riding a MTB home from my local trail when I saw these bikes piled in the trash and the old steel CyclePro MTB was what caught my eye. I thought hmm, an old road bike too, guess I better go home and get the car and come back for them. As soon as I picked up the Peugeot and realized it was probably in the sub 20 lb. range I knew I had something special!
BTW here's my single speed trash pile bike too...

That's incredible! Is that an Ideale 2001 saddle? I'd replace the Suntour with a proper Simplex SLJ, but that's just me.

No Suntour derailer is an upgrade from a Simplex Super LJ, in my opinion. A lot of lesser Simplex derailers were replaced by Suntours, but a Suntour would be a downgrade from a Super LJ.
The Ideale 2001 was original equipment on my PX-10. They were incredibly expensive for a plastic seat. At least the covering is real leather.

I have a frame that looks exactly the same but the fork is not full chrome. It is a PKN-10. It rides wonderfully. Good score.

I wish I could find stunning examples of beautiful French bikes in the trash at *my* building. No chance of that in Portland, though.
And while I'd be personally delighted to find one, I'd also be appalled that somebody would toss such a beautiful bike into the trash.

CFX Frame?
I am thinking this may be a Peugeot "CFX" frame, rather than the PKN10. The CFX frame came to LBS as a frame only, according to my research, or a customer could order one. Thus, the components put on it were at the discretion of the LBS or customer. I have one (also found in the trash) that had a complete Galli groupo put on it. If you go to this website https://home.wanadoo.nl/peugeotshow/ you will see it listed in the 1980 catalogue, along with the PKN10. However, the PKN10 did not have the full chrome forks, just half-chrome. The CFX was probably considered to be a little above the PKN10 quality-wise, because of the chrome forks.
