Suggestions for restoring please.

This is my old bike I commuted to HS on. 30 years ago. Its a 1970s Mercier.

I'm going to have to restore that frame some day. I have original never been used Simplex shifter group and Mafic brakes and new cranks(cottered) with rings in my attic just waiting for that frame.

The question is, how do I wressle it away from my dear old dad who inherited it from me when I moved out.

I was thinking of going all original by robbing parts from a New Peugeot 1974 UE8 Carivan I have. (I have 3 of those) I was going to restore to original paint theme.

Now I thinking of keeping the UE8s together and upgrading the with nice alloy wheels, cranks, etc, etc.as the Mercier as it is sweeter ride than the UE8s and making a new paint theme.

Ahh, what to do....

Trade your dear old dad one of your UE8s in place of the Mercier.

It's just my humble opinion, but I think that the original paint scheme has a certain understated grace that would be difficult to improve upon. It's your bike though, so paint it however you like.

If I were committing the money to have it repainted then I would put the NOS parts on it, too.

Does your dad use the bike or would he just be happy to have it out of his house? If he rides it, I am sure you could find something to replace it that he may like even better.
