My friend had this 1980s Wander Road Bike from Europe...was wondering if any of you guys had come across one or know what they are...

You will need to do some sifting, but from the short bit I gleaned, Wander is/was part of the Garlatti group.

Beyond teh Wander brand from Parma in Italy, there was also a Wander brand from Germany. The Germans specialized in upright city bikes, the Italians a bit of everything.

I have just bought a uses one before the xmas period!made by Garlatti, but is a Wander. The stamp number on the seat tube is 58, i guess with the components and the weight of the frame is 1958 model. The only things missing when i got it was the wheel set, saddle and bar tape. The frt & rr derailleurs you're found in the garbage at the store, because the tech's said that are not fixable :THERE ARE READY FOR BUFFING AND PICS: If you have any pics, it would appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Citoyen du Monde has been peeking in on things lately, and probably knows as much or more than anyone around here about Italian bicycles. Maybe he'll see this and respond.

petandbikes - can you see if there are any stampings on the dropouts? any stickers to indicate the tubing used? numbers stamped on the seat post? what kind of bars, stem, crankset and derailleurs? These things will all help people to help give some idea of what you have.

Wander was originally a German company, that also had a branch in Italy. At some time the Italian company became independent, and was subsequently bought up by the Garlatti group. The bike shown by petandbikes is definitely from the Garlatti period. A bike boom bike, nothing more nothing less. I have seen some refined Wander bikes but this is not one of them. This one has gas pipe tubing but the somewhat more refined rear dropout with integrated derailleur hanger. It was almost certainly fitted with Campagnolo Valentino derailleurs originally. BTW, Garlatti also made a reasonably similar bike for Cinelli that was sold in some markets as the Riviera model.

serial number stamp below BB and on the seat tube stamp 58 "i guess the year" All the stickers are on the frame BUT type of tubing.

58? Probably the size in Centimeters.
The year would be deciphered somewhere in the serial number.

I have a Wander Track bike. The date in the serial number indicates a manufacture date of May 1961. I bought it used in 1968, it had Weinman alloy cottered track cranks, steel track dropped bar. I chromed it in 1970, put campagnolo cranks, durace brakes, shimano rear and campagnolo front derailleurs, campagnolo hubs, changed the campagnolo downtube shifters to campagnolo bar end (fingertip) shifters. The frame uses Mannesman tubing from Germany (the original double butted tubing manugacturer). Frame measures at 24".

Carbon is light but steel has the feel.

I have nothing to add about Wander bikes, but I'd like to congratulate you on a fine zombie thread!

Strange, there was a reference to Colin Blunstone last night on a British show that made me take notice. The reference was to him singing a version of Suzanne, which I don't recall. Regardless, it was enough to make me revisit Odessey & Oracle, which IMO is one of the most under rated albums of all time.

Despite the zombie nature of the subject bicycle, I can add that Canada rec'd clones of the Garlatti manufactured model under the badge of the International Bicycle Corporation.
