Found this today, i offered him $40. No reply, so i got him to tell me what he's looking for - 200 to 500 dollars. That's a bit out of my pricerange at the moment.

Why did you think 10% of his asking price was worth his time? I understand that he said "obo," but $40 is really just an insult, isn't it?

I was just offered half of what I'm asking. That buyer is still waiting for a reply, and will continue to wait for a reply, long after another buyer has ponied up with my asking price.

I'd have to agree... that's a bit excessive as far as "lowballing" goes. I don't think he's too far off on the price, it's a cool (very) old bike.

woah guys, he's added his expected cost 3 hours after i made the offer. i'm not going to waste MY time lowballing him THAT much.

Edit: I should say no dollar amount was on it at the time i made my offer, and i don't have a clue what it's "actually" worth.

The seller has tagged pics, emailed me them when I asked. Wish I had expendable cash flow.

Someone buy this Crescent before I am tempted to drive to Delaware. $125, two sets of wheels. I imagine a clincher/tubular combo.

Sold my Klein Quantum on Craigslist for $400. It was too long in the top tube for me. And people think Cannondale invented the aluminum bike!
My Mercian King is a sweet ride for my old rear end!

North Bay Area C&Vers:

Buy One Get One Free! - $25 (healdsburg / windsor)

"Women's Raleigh Pursuit, 12-speed, 80's vintage, sport touring bike, black, upright ("old-fashioned") handlebars, fits woman up to 5' 7", barely used but needs some TLC as has been in storage: oil, new tires, probably new brake pads.

Men's Peugot, 12-speed, 80's vintage, racing frame, curved handlebars, maroon with yellow/orange details, also needs a bit of TLC, new tires and possibly brake pads"

Anybody near Peoria? Not cheap but could be nice.

Vintage NOS built-up bicycle wheels and brakes - $175 (Peoria, IL)

These items are a blast from the past, bought in 1979 when I had visions of building my own custom touring bike. First is a set of Suntour Superbe caliper brakes, a beautiful copy of Campagnolo Nuovo Records. The polishing and finishing on these brakes, which are complete and still in their original box, are jewel-like and simply a work of art. Second is a set of custom wheels designed for touring. These consist of Weinmann concave rims (with Presta valve holes), 14 gauge straight spokes with 4X lacing, and Campagnolo Nuovo Record large flange hubs. The rims are sized for 27x1 and 1/8" tires (tires with tubes are on the wheels now, but appear to be dry-rotted). A custom 5 gear rear sprocket is on the rear hub, calculated for perfect gear spacing when used with a 42/52 front sprocket set-up. These parts have never been used, and aside from a little dust, are as new.

That sort of thing requires a provenance.

Anyone can yank a bike out of a dumpster and claim it belonged to Howard Hughes' great aunt's second cousin twice removed, means squat without proof

What do you guys think this bike is worth? https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=006

The guy wants $275 to end the auction, and I can pick up.

Read the posting

...which says the bike can be picked up locally at his estate...

If I was local, that would be enough for me.

You're asking the wrong question. Ask if you think the bike will sell on ebay for this. Given it's a brand very few are looking for, that it's not in terrific shape, and that others will have to pay $70 for shipping where you get to pick it up - these things conspire to make you very very likely to win the bike for far less than $275.

My hunch is that it will sell for $137.46, give or take 15˘
