After seeing pictures of the beautiful chrome DL-1s and Sports that several of you guys have I was starting to feel like that kid on your block who nobody would talk to because he had to ride a bike made out of fallen tree branches or something. But no more!

It's an all-chrome 1966 Hercules according to the SA hub date, and in pretty reasonable condition except for the decals and trim paint. On the way home from picking it up a friend and I were joking about building it up with Zeus components and calling it "The Illiad". Had it been a bare frameset, that may have been worth looking into . So... anybody have some spare Hercules decals laying around? I'll be sure to hold my breath, or maybe I'll just talk to JRrestore.

Edit: Hooray for image hosting sites.

Looks like early Stronglight cranks - can you get a drive-side photo?

P.S.: Bikemore - never seen that type of crankset before. Not a Stronglight Pro, that's for sure.

Nothing super special. Just a 1970 Collegiate with drops. A good catch for $10 considering the condition, and that I easily get $100 or more for these on a regular basis. Tires will be the most expensive part of the flip. And the best part?? It's NOT RED, lol!,,,,BD

Shouldn't this bike have upright bars though? The wide S seat and drops make no sense on the same bike.,,,BD

Oh my - that's beautiful. I just love those old cottered competition cranksets.

(Edit) I've just been staring at my old 'Wearwell' Club bike that I have hanging up in my bedroom and I must say that the crankset on my 'Wearwell' looks awfully similar. Actually to tell the truth that Capri reminds me of my 'Wearwell' in lots of ways because my old Club bike was owned by an Irishman from Derry over a long period of time and it slowly evolved acquiring Rigida rims, a Weinmann centrepull front brake, Gary Burgess stem and handlebars & etc.
I'm wondering if this Capri has had a similar life of constant use and development until it has ended up being a bit like grandad's axe.

Oh that's nice I really like green bikes. Drops can be Ok with a mattress saddle if the bike is just being used as a short distance zipping about machine.

1984 Marinoni Special

Gotta love that Italian tricolor 'fade' paint-work. Today is Columbus Day, and I'd be proud to ride this baby down Fifth Ave!

Two of my most recent finds, both Nishikis. The Modulus may be modified with a triple and serve as my winter bike, but at 62 cm, it's at my size limit. The 57cm International will likely see craigslist in its current state, or as a frameset (several parts have been replaced).

1989 Nishiki Modulus

Late 70s (or perhaps 1980) Nishiki International

cinco, that is a beautiful Hercules!

I'm anxiously awaiting to see a Hercules this week. I responded to a CL ad that simply said "Mens Hercules bike, 26", 3-speed" The appointment is set up, and for it's asking of $20, I should be posting in this thread by the end of the week Seller says it is in good condition.

Craigslist find!

Chiorda Gimondi for $150. Nice Campy NR high flange hubs and Ambrosio rims with SS spokes, Zeus Criterium RD, Campy NR FD, Universal centerpulls, 3TTT stem with Ambrosio bars. Campy NR pedals, Sugino Mighty crankset with drilled ring. All in good shape, just needs cleaning. The guy wanted to keep his Brooks.

Not bad! I usually miss this stuff on CL.

Sharp, very sharp.

Finding them half-Zeus is better then finding 'em all Campagnolo, IMHO.

garbage dump biike

Well I finally have a few pics of my free bike. I had to put on some new tires (cheap) and a few little odds and ends. Like new set screws for the derailuer, but nothing major. It looks like it was set up for someone to ride sitting straight up, but it is a nice riding bike. I was really happy with the way this thing feels. I still can't believe someone put this out for the garbage, but when I saw how they tried to put the chain back on, they never would have finished this bike. As it is a little too big for me, I'll be trying to sell it somewhere.

try this again

I did something wrong. Says my file pics are too big. I'll have to figure out how to get them smaller. I thought shooting pics in e-mail mode was all I had to do.

Thank you! The only other Hercules I have was a $5 garage sale special. I didn't bother posting it here because it'd been painted with green latex house paint at some point, but it's still good for parts. I hope you get the one you're chasing and I'll be waiting for the pics.

seattle, just set up a photobucket account and upload them on there, it resizes everything for you and gives you a link to post with the pic in it.

Here's a little something I bagged a few weeks ago, a lowly Raleigh Grand Prix mixte all cleaned up and ready for CL. I paid $85 for it, mostly because it was pretty much ready to go AND had a nice TA triple up front. I stripped it, the Shimano Deer-head FD, and the Raleigh-badged Suntour RD off for eBay, substituted generic Suntour stuff, and re-wrapped the bars.

The rear rack is interesting - the top mount bolts to the brake bridge, where the brake would normally be. Never saw that before, but it is kind of slick!

Off it goes, this morning.

Mixte Madness

That's one damn beautiful bike! Absolute classic. I'm convinced that the value of these rides will increase all around, as these 'mixte' frames become harder and harder to find, especially in such nice condition.

Thanks - it is pretty clean and should sell quickly. Wait'll you see the little Lavender one a bagged on a thrift shop run. It is pretty grungy and needs to be completely overhauled, but the frame and paint are good. It is gonna be pretty.

Also, I snagged a small Centurion Accordo the other day. It is complete, but someone converted it to a "hybrid" with wider tires/rims and upright bars. The frame is a pretty two-tone blue/gray, and might get reserved to be built up with 8sp Sora for my daughter after the loaner bike shes riding goes back to it's owner.
