Help with terminology
 

Thinking of buying a frame to use for a raod bike build up. The frame is an old Ishiwata Magny "V" tubing, in quite nice condition. Only, I'm not sure avout the terminology.

What are: "brazed on cable guides for rear derailleur and bottom pull band-on front changer.

It has a stop on the downtube for band-on gearchangers"

I know the "cable guides" are the loops for long cabling to go under with no stops, but what is the band on front changer/gear changers. Am I right in thinking it means the friction changes that were attatched via a clamp as opposd to braze-ons. If so, is it possible to buy cable stops to replace the changers, as the bike I hope to build up is a tourer with changers on the bars.

Exactly, it means that. I don't know the answer re bar shifters though, don't think I fully understand why you'd need anything on the downtube with those.

See the nearby thread on bar-end shifters and do a bit of google searching from there, and I think it will explain the use of stops with them. Also the Rivendell site has some discussion and adapters.

Thanks for that. As for the bar shifters, there are no other stops for the outer cable on the frame. The back brake has loops for the full cable to go through, but the front and back mech will need stops somewhere between changer and deraillier to put the outer cable against. I've seen adaptors for tube shifters where you take the lever off and put an outer cable stop in it's place.
