looking for adjustable track stem

Does anyone have an adjustable track stem (Titan or similar) that they would be willing to part with. Or has anyone seen one sub-$80? I missed out on a couple on ebay just recently. Thanks.

Do you mean something like this?

Yes. Or like this:

The $80 price is seemingly the lower end of the fair market value of these. Why do you need an adjustable one? If you are on a budget why not simply get the right size off the bat?

dbakl 10-12-06 11:33 AM

Yeah, more like 120-140. on ebay these days, for the Ambrosio pictured.

Honestly, aesthetics. I know it's vain, but I love how they look. I couple closed recently in the $80's but I have seen higher.

i can't find any info on it online...

I too am looking for one. I've seem some on ebay recently and I guess I'll list their description and ending price to give a baseline for current cost. Major Taylor Stem(rechromed) $155, 3t adjustable stem w/drop bars $50 (really sad I missed that one), 3ttt nos record adjustable stem $227.50, and the only one on ebay that I've seen http://cgi.ebay.com/vintage-pista-st...d=p3286.c0.m14 . Well, hope we all find some more.

The picture you show is a Schwinn Paramount branded part, though the handle bar clamp seems like something else. They turn up occassionally, I got one on ebay a few years ago for a Paramount track I'm still trying to find the original parts for.

The Ambrosios turn up on ebay regularly, I've gotten a couple, as do the all steel Major Taylors but they bring at least 100., usually more to win.

I don't know anything about the Titans...

3ttt also have some if I remember correctly that show up from time to time. Quite nice. I have seen them in a Tokyo shop NOS for about a hundred $.

(I am not currently in Japan, and cannot go buy them for you, sorry)

Scooper 09-25-08 09:51 PM

Jeff Lyon makes them new, but they're not chrome plated and they have a square (box beam) extension instead of a round one. I bought one from him a couple of years ago. You can flip the clamp; it can be above or below the extension.

The Schwinn adjustable stem:

I have two of the Major Taylor adjustables (sorry, not for sale). If you bid on these it is best to go for a stem/bar combo if possible. The handlebar clamp is ~22m and quite difficult to find bars for.

The Lyonsports look good!! I might think about getting one of those soon.

Scooper 09-25-08 11:32 PM

The advantage of the square extension is you don't have to worry about the handlebar slipping unintentionally from the horizontal. The disadvantage is that it's not as aethetically pleasing as a cylindrical extension.

I'll take the $3.50 Schwinn stem above ^ please!

Heck, I'll take a gross of them at that price. :D

redxj 09-26-08 05:17 PM

I would say good luck getting one of those adjustable track stems for a reasonable price on Ebay. You might find one locally and that would be the best bet to find one for a decent price from a seller who doesn't know the current value of them. I picked up one a few years ago in a huge box of parts along with two Paramounts for a cheap price. I auctioned off the adjustable track stem a year ago and I got $280 for it on Ebay! Picture of it:

Let me know if you are still looking.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay. There are plenty with crazy price tags but they have yet to sell

Chombi 02-07-14 01:38 PM

There must be an adjustable stem design out there that does not look so fugly....
Heck, even Look's adjustable "Ergo" stem is no looker either.....

CbadRider 02-07-14 02:43 PM

Just a friendly reminder that all offers for sale must take place in the Markeplace forums which require an upgraded membership.

Scooper 02-07-14 03:01 PM

Zombie thread!

I wound up buying a new manufacture Livery Design Gruppe adjustable stem for my Paramount for $150. The stem is 17-4 stainless steel and the adjustable clamp is 6061-T6 heat treated CNC machined aluminum.

I don't think I've had a post deleted before. I'm okay with it.

That's a Cinelli stayer stem and maybe the rarest of all.

Also looking for Schwinn adjustable track stem

All I really need is the clamp for the stem that goes with a Paramount bike from 1960’s. I want to buy it from someone. I am willing to buy the stem also.
