Panasonic Sport LX
Hi, I have the option of buying a panasonic sport LX, and I was wondering how it stacked up in the grand scheme of vintage road bikes. I'm not expecting something fabulous, but just hoping to get a quality bike I can ride as a commuter. It apparently has a shimano derailler (not sure what kind) and diacompe brakes. Anybody know about these?

How much?
It's nothing special, for sure, but it'll be a fine commuter if it fits. |
I had one of those. It was a fairly decent bike. CroMoly main frames. I did change out the wheels. I believe the original ones were steel rims. I also changed out the shifters to down tube ones. and changed the brakes ( I hated the "lazy levers" ) I put well over 8,000 miles on mine in the ten or so years that I rode it. I still have it but it is not in great shape. I believe it was in the lower end of their line at the time. Sport 500 and sport 1000 were higher. Decent but not the best. It was my first real bike when I bought it in 1984 and served me well. I would buy it again if not for nostalgic sake.

The buyer wants $80 for it . . . think that's fair?

Do you like the bike? Is it in good shape?
If the answer is YES, then see if you can pick it up for $50-60 price range. My Fuji (see sig) is along the same lines in terms of quality and I'm very attached to it. |
