Colnago catch ?

This is for sale for highest bid over 140$. Can anyone tell me what kind of model its is ? I do not want to ask too many questions, the seller knows nothing about the bike, IE the really bad pic.

Suffice it to say it is damn well worth it, provided those aluminum handlebar stem and seatposts aren't stuck in the frame.

Looks like a full Campagnolo Super Record grouppo.

If it's full SR, then it's worth it, stuck or not. I could shift an SR gruppo for a LOT more than $140.

I WOULD ask more questions!! The decals are WRONG! It has a top tube decal on the down tube and downtube decals on the seat tube. The large club decal underneath the seat lug looks like one for a tool kit or shop window. Colnago seat tube decals of that era are a single STACKED row on the front of the tube not on the sides of the tube.

It does look like a Colnago but it could be a Giubilato with ofmega parts, hard to tell from the crappy pic. Not saying this is, but a regular scam is people pretending they don't know anything about what they are selling when in actual fact they know exactly what they are doing, and people don't ask...

Could be the real deal , but i would be careful and get a serial# and some more pics.

good luck

even if it is a giubilato with ofmega parts it's still worth it. why haven't you picked it up yet?

vjp 10-20-06 11:10 AM

It is highest offer OVER $140 , not buy it now for $140 or I would agree with you that it would be ok at that price whatever it was.

It has a ten days bidding period, so I hope no one else sees it. Could it be an old Mexico ? The Rolls looks like it has'nt been too much used, but the strangely colored hoods (newer?) make me a bit suspicious. The seller is a lady whose (many) other auctions are pottery and trivia and she has a one week return policy. It is a local pickup which I hope will work in my favor.

Those are oooold campy hoods.

Ooh! Nice pedals!

Just a general tip, it took me about 1 minute to find the auction, so if you don´t want competition in the bidding, don´t advertise it on public forums! Good luck with the auction though, it´s a beautiful bike!

WHY not?

Best indicators that this could very well be a Colnago are the two cables guides on the top tube (*very* Colnago!).
Other hints: characteristic red metallic color & chromed fork (resp. chrome fake on right chainstay) while still built with the older fork crown - it's very likely that this is no Mexico. Shifter cables below the BB, so it's not late 70s. Should be a 81/82 Super. I'm not sure, but I think I can see one of those small Colnago hooks on the top front lug.
Geometry fits; Campagnolo shifters, Record breaks and water bottle/holders, probably also cranks and headset; Rolls saddle, 100mm stem - todo muy typical for a Super of those years.

Maybe the old transfers "fell off" :p (no transparent overcoat on Colnagos of that vintage) and were renewed - just with a bit more "character" than the factory scheme :D .

I'd too ask the seller about it, but I'd be quite confident that this is not a fake (and I've seen LOTS of Colnago fakes).

looks like tubulars to my eye, and the front and rear rim
don't match. Front looks like polished alloy, rear looks like
grey anodized (like GP4, Gel330 etc.).
no matter what this actually is the frankenbike aspect of it
is probably going to dissuade serious collector types away (unless
they can get better ID of bike).

Thankl you all for feedback on this mystery bike. I am still the highest bidder and will come back with more photos if i should win. A one weeek return policy of the seller should give me time to figure out what sort of bike this is.

classic1 10-23-06 06:01 AM

Not as good as a Paganini plodderslusk;)

Erzulis Boat 10-24-06 08:48 AM

Decals appear to be incorrect.......

Seat tube decal looks like a downtube decal reading "downwards", and the extremely large clover on the seat tube directly under the top/seat/seatstay junction looks entirely too big to be correct.

I do NOT have extensive experience with Colnago framesets, but these details alone would scare me off.

Quite simply, the seat tube decal dominates the downtube transfer...looks 'outta wack.

The frame must be inspected for the tell-tale stuff "in the metal" so to speak.

Sometimes things are cheap.......because they are.........

Contact the seller.
