Ciocc help/identification
Hi guys, I have found my Ciocc! Sort of. I have had a 60cm Ciocc for awhile now but I don't know anything about it except that the paint was shot-to-hell and the metal underneath was rusting. So I had it sandblasted and powder-coated and I've ridden it every day since. I didn't know much about bikes then so didn't really take any note of the tubing or the model-type of this Ciocc but I just now for the first time have seen the same frame up on eBay: Ciocc
Does this frame ring a bell with anyone? I asked the seller if he could find find any Columbus decals but he couldn't. I wish he had some better pictures but maybe someone can help me out here by looking at the auction, thanks. |
That ebay frame is not the size stated. Looks like a 55 or 56 ctc, Maybe 54 ctc, no smaller.

Darn, I guess this will remain a mystery-Ciocc.

I wish there was more info on Ciocc on the ol' Infernalnet, cause I have a model that has never been given its proper name, too. But this one looks like a pretty standard Ciocc offering, probably a Designer '84. Given the paint, I'd guess an early to mid '80s product and probably SL or SLX tubing. I have never seen a Ciocc made with lower-grade Columbus tubing (Aelle or the like), but here's where some expert can correct me and add to the data-base if I'm mistaken.

This is the best photo I have of it. Headtube cracked in a crash, I kept the downtube for a souvenier. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/5...20Crit%201.jpg |
Neat photo, when was that taken? Judging by the helmets, maybe 1986 or so? Bummer about the crash, is the downtube on a wall or something?
|
1988
The crash wasn't in that race and didn't immediately wreck the frame, it started a crack at the head tube lug that I didn't see right away and then it slowly fatigued until it became visible a few months later. I traded a photographer friend of mine my car stereo for a photo shoot and a ride to the race. I have some more of those photos somewhere I should scan in... nice to see myself so thin! The downtube is in my garage with a bunch of other broken souveniers. I should have a museum. |
