My Schwinns and Imbedding Photobucket Pics

This is almost a pointless bike information thread but one that might be helpful to WWW noobs such as myself. I signed up for Photobucket and I want my bike photos to appear as a part of my thread or posts. My first attempt only inserted a link, so I'm trying once again.
Here's a picture of my '79 Traveler which I bought new in 1980. It was made in Japan for Schwinn by Bridgestone.
79TravelerMay2006.jpg
The second Schwinn is a '66 Paramount that I bought as a basket case a year ago on ebay. I took this picture after completing the restoration a week ago.
66ParamountOct242006.jpg
The third Schwinn I aquired is a '71 Varsity. It is Kool Lemon, the first year for this color on this model. I found it at the town dump in March of this year. This is the day it came home. I have some Kool plans for it this winter.
71VarsityMar2006.jpg
The last Schwinn I brought home arrived the end of May for $1 at the Church Yard Sale. It too was heading to the town dump. It's a '66 Collegiate. I restored it in July while watching the TdF. It is a great deal of fun to ride. It's the poorer cousin to my Paramount.
66CollegiateHR3.jpg
Let's see if I'm successful this time around. If not, any and all sage advice is welcomed. Thanks!

Sammy, we all wait with anticipation. English Gentleman's bikes charm the spandex off us!

You might be waiting a while. I've my fixed gear to finish, my sons Holdsworth, my Bates, and all sorts of other projects.

What I like about the idea is that the underlying frame is a nasty 80's 501 Raleigh road bike frame, with this bizarre elliptical (aerospace!) downtube. Really odd looking in road bike guise, but once stripped and repainted black, or burgundy, or chocolate brown, with North Road, or Moustache, or maybe Nitto Promenade bars, nice aluminium fenders, a rack, a sprung Brooks and a saddlebag, it'll look marvelous.

No response to my E-mail. I will call later today. Possibly Ms. PB's vibes are impeding with the lines of communication!

I need to do the same kind of post-I have the chrome Paramount in roadworthy condition and am planning a wheel build this weekend for the Gitane TdF. One of these days I'll get some decent pictures.

Let's see if I remember Ricky!
Type your commentary, such as; "I also have this custom MTB built in '88. It has cromoly double butted and lugged tubes. I've added fenders, studded tires, rack, bags, GPS, lights, etc., and plan to ride it on snow mobile trails this winter. I call it my 'Snow Cycle.'" Then hit "enter" for a carriage return to the next line.
At this point make certain Photobucket is open in the Album view where a small version of your photos are displayed. Under each are three lines, Url, Tag, and Img. Highlight and copy the info in the Url line. Now switch back to to BF "Reply to Thread" page. Look at the icons in the menu line. On the second line near the right end you will see <>, #, Wrap QUOTE, and then the INSERT IMAGE, buttons. Click on the INSERT IMAGE, and then paste the Url you copied from Photobucket.

Click OK and presto, an imbedded picture. Good luck!

It was a cold and dreary day last March when I went to the dump. There sat a Kool Lemon Varsity, a ray of sunshine, blazing from the side of a twisted, mangled, rusting, scrap metal pile. It was a sight to behold. I'm afraid that if I mention what my plans are for "V" over the winter, it will begin to beg and plead for a bike box and one way UPS ticket south. I'll keep you posted.

FWIIW, the Varsity was the inspiration for the yellow fenders on the Snow Cycle.

Gorgeous pics Pastor Bob !
Of all of them, the '79 Traveller is my fave because I
had one EXACTLY like it that as I think back was the point
in my life where bicycle as a lifestyle got it roots. I didnt realize it
back then, but in retrospect these things become more apparent.
If your garage gets too small, and ..................tee hee hee

Pastorbob,

Can you tell me the paint code and paint brand that was used to repaint your Paramount? Love it!

Thanks!

The paint color for my Paramount and Collegiate is the Schwinn color named "Radaint Coppertone." It is still mixed by a company specializing in Schwinn reproduction paints called Hyper-Formance. I've pasted in their web site below. As you know the Paramount is repainted, the Collegiate paint is 40 years old and nearly an identical shade. No word on the Volare in MN.

Pastor Bob -- I know you probably haven't polished up the rack for the Traveler yet, but how about a quick mock up pic with the new "accessory set" we've talked about. I'm dying to see how it looks ...

Out of curiousity what are the plans for the Varsity? Nothing drastic I hope!

Actually, the more I look at it the more I see that bike has everything I love. I know I heard they're heavy, which doesnt really make sense for what is supposed to be a "lightweight", though I don't mind heavy bikes, as I ride 'em 90% of the time anyways! It uses a one-piece crank which is a gem as far as im concerned - easy to work on - no special tools required! AND it has an actual headbadge and decals (no stickers!). The only thing its missing is lugs, but you can't have everything now can you? Did any varsitys ever come with fenders, or was that the Suburban? I know I saw a nice sschwinn 10 speed like that on ebay once with matching colored fenders, it was blue or teal I can't remember. I was rather itching to get her, but it was a lil too expensive with shipping in mind, and it wasnt yellow! Too bad those never made it to Canada.

Not much time--- but I'll see what I can do. Last week my repair project was to rehab the old Huret Sprint RD from the Collegiate or rehab the '80s Huret Allivet RD I found at the dump and use it. (I have been using a Shimano 400 on the Collegiate but cables and improper stops did not make it work well.) I ended up using the Allivet. The chrome was perfect, and it worked better. Besides, the jockey wheels on the Sprint were nearly shot and chrome was blistered.

Drastic? Yes! Irreversible? No way! Let's just say for now that I've named this project in my head, "Having fun with Varsity." The frame and fork will stay intact. The Kool Lemon paint will remain. I might touch up the few scrapes. The rest of the project will pivot around component "opportunities" I've found at the dump and traded other C&V BFers for. But don't worry, all the original Schwinn pieces will be neatly cleaned, labled and stored. My hope is that it will be a Varisity like no other.
