Sincity...where is that bike listed? I need details! It's not on any of the Hiwheel message boards. Maybe I can get in before the deluge! PM me!

You hipsters and your fixed gears....
|
I want to keep living, thank you very much, lol.,,,,BD
|
BTW, how do you mount on of these contraptions?
|
See the little pegs above the back wheel? One foot on one of those, scoot along a little bit, then hop up.
What I want to see is someone do an endo on one of those, without eating pavement. |
Well if they can lift their behind off the seat quickly enough, they may be able to do a reverse handspring over the bars to safety?,,,,BD
|
No, I want them to endo, hold it, then drop the back wheel and ride away again. Essentially, I wanna see flatland BMX on a penny farthing......
|
I was on pedal Pittsburgh and pasted by a guy riding one on that ride. He was doing 35 miles of hill on it. I was pretty impressed. It was cool to see someone riding it. Would love to hope on one and check it out.
|
What's the deal with the lipstick-red crank arm?
|
there's another handlebar design for these that's sort of like a reverse mustache bar..
your thighs go over the bars so you can jump off the front if you have to

A guy was riding one at last fridays critical mass, I think it may have been a reproduction but he hit a pot hole or a road reflector or something happened, I was near him and saw him go down but am not sure exactly what happened first... Did the wheel bend and then he went down or did he make a wrong move and go down and bend the wheel in the process? Either way when I saw the wheel all I could thinks is: "where is he going to find spokes for that thing? how much is a new rim going to cost? wow that would suck!"

strange "tall" bike sighting
I saw a strange tall bike the other day, near where I work in Richmond, CA. It was clearly home-built. The guy had (I think) welded the main triangles from two frames together, to make a sort of diamond/parallelogram extended frame. Instead of using the extra length to make a "stretch" long-wheelbase bike, he also had put on super-long forks, to raise the front end of the frame to about double height. The seat was also very high up, and the crank was several feet off the ground. (The chain to the rear freewheel or cassette was therefore longer than normal, and went at a steep angle from the raised crank, down to the rear wheel.) I didn't notice any little foot-pegs to be used to mount the bike, but the rider was more or less the same height off the ground as on one of the old "big front wheel" chainless bikes. The obvious question is, "Why?"
I remember seeing an old photo of a top-speed record attempt using one of the old big-front-wheels bikes, with a super-large front wheel (for higher top-speed capability). They had laid planks down the middle of a railroad track, for the bike "path", and then built an extension off the back of a train car to provide a drafting wind-shield. It was almost a moving housing that the cyclist would ride inside, as the train and bike went down the track. It looked like a good way to kill yourself. I forget the top speed obtained, but I believe it was on the order of 60 mph, albeit train-draft aided. |

Pushing the stressed out cage drivers over the edge when confronted with a mass situation suddenly out of their control can be a bad thing. A bad thing later on when they're on the edge again and decide to take out all their frustrations out on one poor local who just wants to ride his or her bike. That local who may just need to commute to work or go for a relaxing ride is suddenly aligned with this large group of would be liberators with whom he or she had no connection. And if the target of the rant is your kid on a bike against 4,000 pounds of speeding steel........

Ah, the old 'DON'T DO ANYTHING EVER OR YOU MIGHT GET MURDERED'
Man, if a guy tried to run me down with his car, his car would regret it. |
Folks, CM is just NOT C&V topic. discuss it in Advocacy and safety,
discusss it in living car free, but don't discuss it here. |
