Velocete classic road bike - any info ?
Anyone out there have any info on this Velocete brand ? There might be a connection with team Flandria as the frame has the Belgium flag colors on down tube (Flandria had a bicyle factory in Portugal) but this bike seems of higher quality than the cheaper Flandrias that were imported to US in early 70's.
I have owned this bike since 1972 - I am the second owner. First owner in Portugal was represented to be a domestique racer that retired due to injury and whom had raced in France and Tour of Portugal. The Velocete logo would indicate Portuguese origin (same logo as Velocete motorcycles - not to be confused with the British Velocette with two T's) - but the Belgium colors contradict this.
note: center of downtube blue and stripes are original colors - the overall metalic copper color is not.
Components are:
frame - reynolds 531 but without lugs (didn't even know this was possible... have never seen this on a
bike with 531 and Campy components ????) Any other classic rides out there with no lugs ?
Campagnolo chrome forks and stays.
Derailleurs - Patent 70 Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear and front
Crank - Stronglight
Brakes - Mafac Dural Forge center pulls
head - Campagnolo
handlebars - Cinelli
wheels - Fiamme red label tubular rims with large flange 36 spoke Campagnolo hubs and straight skewers.
weight - 10 Kg (22 lbs)
It's still operational and I ride it just about every weekend (photos taken prior to cleanup of oxydation and general adjustments) !!! Would love to have more info as I get asked lots of questions about this classic.
