old KHS with Tange Aero?

just picked up a bike for $110 off an ebay auction. it was too weird not to go for it, and I just flipped the wheelset for $45. it's a red frame with no decals or markings. I examined the bottom bracket and the letters "KHS" and the serial number 82100229 are printed.

the frame is made of a strange steel tubing that after some research I believed to be Tange Aero (looks like this: https://www.firstflightbikes.com/Vista.htm ). all the tubes are ovalized except for the head tube. this includes the seat tube, so the seatpost is an ovalized Sugino "Aero Mighty." the seatpost is held in place by two pins on the seat tube. dropouts say "Suntour Pro." the braze-on shifter mount is in the center of the downtube, so it will require one of those special Shimano AX or Suntour shifter sets.

the components that it came with were a mix of suntour cyclone and superbe, shimano 600 and 105, dia-compe, and sugino. don't think they were all original. the 105 shifters were just clamped on to the oval-shaped tube above the braze-on. they're all kind of rusty, but the frame itself and the stem/handlebars/seatpost should clean up well.

it also came with one of the funkiest handlebar/stem combos I've seen. the handlebars say "Nitto ADB X" and the stem says "Nitto Crystemblue." they appear to be the same as on this bike: https://www.bicycletrader.com/collection/bike32.html .

anyone know anything about this bike or KHS back then? this bike would seem to come from the early to mid 80s. it's weird enough that I think I'm going to do something with it. maybe get it powdercoated and toss on my suntour superbe pro stuff if it's a decent frame. I've included a couple pictures that the seller took.

I don't know that much about this puppy, but I likes it. I think it deserves a restro and helping of that Surperbe Pro...keep the Nitto stuff if it fits you, it adds to the weirdo panache. I think you may have hit on the start of the next trend to supplant the NJS fixation.

a vista aero with full dura-ace ax just showed up on ebay.
https://cgi.ebay.com/Vista-Aero-Shima...QQcmdZViewItem

with all those ax components I bet the bidding will end way up there. looking at the lugs I'm now pretty certain that I've got the same tubeset. I'm pretty pleased to have found an aero frame like this for cheap. I'm working on cleaning it up and I'll try to get it painted this week.

Hi. Really long shot (this thread is two and a half years old!) but if you were ever selling that stem or the stem and bars please let me know. I don't have the full info but I think the stem was made by Nitto for these bars, please never separate them. I have these bars and am looking for the stem.
Thank you!
