Check out my New To Me Miyata!

I'd appreciate anything you can tell me about the exact vintage of this bike and the originality of the equipment.

Of all things...I traded some car parts I had lying around for this bike.

It's got Dura Ace:
cranks,
derailleurs,
brakes and levers,
shifters and headset,
Seat post.

Cinelli stem and bars.

The rims are Campy and the hubs don't match, with the rear hub being Shimano 600 and the front being a brand I've never seen. The frame is a little more dinged up than the pictures show, but I'm really excited about it!

The serial numbers are QW60712 with a 56 stacked next to this number.

I'm a Newbe -- so please tell me what the bung on the bottom of the down tube and the bottom of the top tube are for.

These are the "fresh outta the truck" pics, so forgive the filth, that'll be rectified today by the son who wants this for his very own. I feel like I got the deal of the century on this thing! Thanks for looking and whatever you can tell me about it.

Do you mean the pump peg on the back of the head tube?

Thanks!

Thanks! I saw the pump peg, about two or three inches in from that there's another bung and then there's one on the down tube that looks like a bottle cage mount, but there's only one.

I'll try to get some better pics, these were just quick because I wanted to get it on here to learn more about it.

I'm so excited about this thing! Some 33" tires off a rig in the backyard for something I'm really happy with and the prospect of getting my son into cycling...WIN WIN WIN!

1989. Both wheels, pedals, bar and stem are not original. The boss on the underside of the downtube is a mount for a compressed air cartridge hoilder. These were popular alternatives to carrying a pump, especially for triathletes. The tab on the top tube is for a racing number plate.

You're the man Tmar

T-Mar, you're the man! Thanks for the info.

If any of you can help me out, I'd also like to know what would have been the original equipment and what the original retail would have been on this bike. Thanks!

Any opinions on the current value of this bike?

sweet!

How 'bout a pic of yours lala?

My son is very excited about this bike. What do you guys think about him possibly painting this bike non-stock colors? Also, was this bike more than likely bought and built from a frameset or was it sold complete?

Thanks again!

Team Miyata, too cool

Ahh yes, the old Team Miyata racing frame. What a lovely machine it is indeed. I helped Lala with the build up of her example. I am guessing that most of these were sold as built bikes, but Lala found hers as a frameset and in mint condition. It is a kooky story, maybe she'll give more detail. On seeing hers I fell in love with old Miyata craftsmanship, and now have my own. A Miyata 912, black with a silver headtube. Beautiful.

Actually I'm thinking that the wheelset is inappropriate and not flattering...so.... I may be shy about posting it!

Don't paint it! It looks perfect as it is!

Painting is not worth it unless the paint is really badly chipped and scratched and the rust is bad. Better to display the bike's heritage IMHO.

Thanks!

Thanks for the opinions. I like the old school look (actually, it just looks like school to me since I was in HS in '89) but we'll see what my son does with it. We went for our first ride today...a 22 miler on the American River Bike Trail. Good times!

Tell us your story Lala!
