Is there a difference between Record and Super Record cranks other than the chainrings? Are the arms the same?

Yes there is a difference between Record and Super Record...they look totally different. Record is brand new stuff. If you mean Nuovo Record and Super Record...the only difference is the date code on the crank arms. Otherwise, the chainrings are the only cosmetic difference that differentiate the two.

All this is of course simply a way for people to describe what era a crankset was built. In actuality however Campagnolo themselves never differentiated between the cranks and simply called them "Record". So it can be a bit confusing.. but the generally accepted practice is calling the cranks either NR or SR based on when they were built. It all comes down to if you want to be technical or descriptive.

NR cranks either have no datecode or a datecode that reflects 1973 to about 1980. They must also have the older-style NR oval-cutout chainrings. SR cranks go from about '80 to '84 and have the SR arched chainrings.

Late Super Record cranks about '86 to '87 had no fluting on the arms and modified machining to the back side to add material near the "crack prone" zone at the arm spider connection. Logo was laser etched as well. It appears by that time in production, the NR "style" (actually Record) was discontinued.

I guess you mean 'milling' and not 'fluting'. But anyway, I then suppose that Super Record cranks and C-Record cranks were in production at the same time....which would mean the first time Campy themselves differentiated between 'Record' cranks.. ie: Record and Record Corsa?

Sorry I should have clarified. I was referring to fluted mid-70's to mid-80's Record, Nuovo Record, and Super Record cranks.

• Campagnolo Catalog No. 17 (1974) shows Record and Super Record cranks but the only difference I see is chainrings.
  
• Campagnolo Catalog from a US Distributer (1976) shows Nuovo Record and Super Record but the only difference I see is chainrings.
  
• Campagnolo Olympic Catalog (1982) shows shows Nuovo Record and Super Record but the only difference I see is chainrings.
  
• Campagnolo Catalog No. 18 (1986) shows Record and Super Record cranks but the only difference I see is chainrings.
  

So from 1974 through 1986 were all of the Record, Nuovo Record and Super Record cranks arms the same? Other than date code and slight differences in the length, model and pedal threading markings. I am curious because I have three sets of cranks. One definitely Super Record (with 1978 date code), one Record or Nuovo Record (with 1982 date code) and one other set of arms (no rings but with 1984 date code). So in 1984 Campagnolo sold both Record and Super Record cranksets. Are the arms the same?

Yes, you are correct Christiank. For any given year when both Nuovo and Super were in production there is no difference other than the chainrings. I suspected there may have been titanium chainring bolts at one time but I am not so confident in that anymore.
