Sekine Bikes
 

Hey,
My name is Scott, I am the grandson of Dennis Scott - the engineer who designed and built Sekine bikes in Matitoba in the early 70's.
My grandfather has been ahead of the times all his life. He engineered and built some of the first prototypes for alternative energy sources (solar and natural gas) and tried unsuccessfully to get them patented. Of course at the time this was not the train of though of Canadian polititions. All his forward thinking has only recently been revisited and patented by huge corporations; no kudos to my grandfather at all. Sekine bikes was just another example of him being too far ahead of the times. These were and still are some of the best bikes ever made.
I'd like to find a Sekine bike in great shape to give to my grandfather so he in turn can give it to his great grand son, Dennis.
Anyone care to part with there Sekine?

I think your best bet will be ebay. Search and find. I spotted this one, but talk about a confusing description, belongs in "Numbskull of the Day" sticky. Is it Italian? French? or Canadian? Contact the seller and see if you can get any help. Good luck.

Where do you live? If you are still in Manitoba you could find them in Winnipeg. I see them at garage sales all the time. The Winnipeg Police Auction in April will have a lot of them. You will pay maybe $50 for one at the auction and $5 at a garage sale. I was at a bike shop close out auction last spring and bought a brand new 1980 Sekine with mountain bike style tires and rims laced to Sturmey Archer 3 speed drum brake hubs. The bike didn't have any air in the tires and the tubes looked like they never had air in them. I also bought an identical bike in very used and rusty condition. Send me a private message and I will send some info on Sekine bikes I find.

I asked the seller couple days ago abou the Sekine as it's just past Niagara Falls somewhere -short ride.
The standover is approximately 34 inches. The derailer is a Shimano Lark sto, hubs and rims don't have a name that I can see. Rims are chrome, Crank is a Sakae SR, Decal is a decorative S CREST with the name MEDIALLE on it. The Pedals are KKT-RT-SF, the Stem and Crank is a SAKAE Custom. Behind the gears has a Metal disc behind the gears, that says SEKINE. All brakes are and shifters are Shimanos. Shipping will be 73.00.
pretty low end. Maybe lower mid-level.

I bought my Sekine from CL earlier this year. It seems one pops up locally every few months or so.

I ride an 84 Sekine. Commuted on all last winter. It truly is an awesome bike. Mine was 15 bucks police auction. I see them on ebay usually the T.O. police auction. Be patient hit your garage sales this spring youll find one.I read some good Sekine stories here. Good luck Stick around.

I know this is a very old thread, but I have a Sekine racing bike. Magenta in color with sew up tires. I believe from the 1970s that says "World's Finest Bicycle made by Sekine". Very light in weight. Please reply if interested.

This is off topic, but you mentioned that you are related to a designer that worked at the factory in Manitoba back in the 70s. I am currently working on a Sekine project that likely requires the assistance of someone that worked at the factory. The thread is "Sekine Chrome Frame Bike"

It would be much appreciated if you could ask him take a look and let me know if he remembers anything about such a bike.
