80's Faggin Frame

I'm out of town this week and stumbled across this ad in the local classifieds. Looks intriquing and it's just the right size. Might be good for a fixie...

$200 for the frame, fork, headset, bars and stem.

Is it worth a closer look? What is Columbus Tretubi?

-----------------------------------

1980s Faggin frame, columbus tretubi tubing, dope lugs with detail, french color scheme (not american, haha), gipiemme dropouts, chrome fork with Faggin on the top sides, chrome rear end with outline, Faggin stamped on the non drive side BB shell, rear brake hole post has some painted lug detail, a big F cutout on the bottom of BB shell, no dents or dings, only some paint chips and tire wear on chainstays, it has tight rear end and looks dope. Bars and stem are not included, the 600 headset is, though. I was going to build it up as full campagnolo road bike, but decided gears are not for me right now and am going to finish my track bike build up. toptube=56 seattube=59.5, could be off as I only have a tape measure used for tailoring.

Tretubi means the three main tubes are Columbus tubing of some sort. I personally would not pay $200, but that is me. It looks to be a nice frame. BTW, the ad says the bars and stem are not included

Thanks Lynn - you are correct - I somehow missed the word "not".

I like the look of it and the chromed stays and embossing on the fork and seat-stays is really nice. I think 200$USD might be a bit much, especially if you are going to make a fixie out of it. I rode a fixed-gear conversion for awhile and I liked it so much that I went and bought a true track bike; if the same goes for you you will be posting this frame up on CL yourself. Ask for $300 when you do ;)

Rad's moving into the fixed gear scene?! Wow. Just don't cut/grind/sand off ANYTHING (as I'm sure you already know). I'm tired of seeing gorgeous old Colnagos, Bianchis, Cinellis, etc. getting hacked into fixed gear conversions.

Looks like a very nice frame. Even this tretubi has pantographing and attention to detail. My faggin is very nicely finished except one small detail and that it the rear brake bridge. Chrome is thin as is paint on mine. The fork was very very badly pitted when I got it and had to have it rechromed... somewhere along the line the fork went out of allighnment. I suspect it was the rough handed chromers on the buffer putting to much force on the fork legs... I digress... $200 ain't a rip off but it is a bit high. I paid just over $200 for mine on ebay (but didn't know about the pitting)... and it is SPX with campy dropouts. Oh and the above frame is late 80s to early 90s vintage.

Tretubi is Columbus SP in the main triangle only. Somewhat akin to the "531 main tubes" on the '70s Raleigh Super Courses.

Is it worth $200? Probably not, but it'd fetch that on eBay, we all know. $125 would be a bit more down-to-earth, but you're still coming off short in the tubing department (not that it matters much), but high in the styling department.

Personally though, I wouldn't spend two cents on any frame with a name like "Faggin." Paint job don't help...

You might as well ride it with leather chaps.

Looks like a nice frame, I agree $200 is high though. I recently won a similar fork on e-Bay, chrome was good except for a bit of rust around the pantograph on one shoulder.
