Before I mess up this chainring

Is there any particular reason I shouldn't clean up and hang this skiptooth I recently acquired?

Is that a section of chain that's been corroded into the chainring? Only thing I'd worry about is the cleaned result not looking as appealing as the "authentic' if not 'rustic' starting point.

Yeah, that's a bit of chain rusted into it...

Is it still called "patina" if it's that thick? :D

It may just get a clearcoat then.

I have the exact same chainring. My chainring is tripple chromed. It looks mint. I don't know why I bought it, I have no use for it.
