Dork Disk upgrade

I'm putting 700c wheels on my Varisty but this one thing has me stuck. I need to put a large, garish, chrome dork disk on a modern wheel with a 8/9 speed Shimano hub. The problem is that the donor disks fit behind the freewheel on and older bike but on a newer bike they must fit over the freehub. I could take one of my donors and laboriously cut out the center to get it over the freehub then zip-tie it to the spokes but this seems messy, time-consuming, and after all the trouble, it might not work well. I need this thing to appear to be chrome and have some bacon-slicer holes in it. Chrome-plastic would be acceptable. Anyone have any ideas?

All I have ever seen for spoke protectors on freehub wheels are plastic.

I would opt to expand the vintage disk's hole and use some small gauge wire to hold it to the spokes at 3 or 4 spots if I were in your position.

I had a chrome disk for my uniglide freehub wheels. It got all out of wack and I took it off when I cleaned and rehabbed the bike.

They do come in metal on cassette hubs, 's all I'm sayin'.
