Please help me identify this beautiful Masi...
She was loaded with full Campy Super Record '83, which leads me to believe, along with the SMC on the BB, that the frame was probably built in '83 in San Marcos. Is this right? And by whom? The name Rob Roberson has been put out there, but then I heard otherwise. Hmm... If anyone could further enlighten me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

classic randezvous would be the place for this question.

Weren't Masi's somewhat "custom" made bike frames?;) |
1983
Third Quarter 75 built that quarter. SMC indeed is San Marcos period Most likely repaint, at the time the two color downtube transfers, the alternating color downtube text transfers were long gone. Looks like a good respray though, that would account for the rack mounts. If original I would expect the drops to have eyelets as well. Masi did not market the bike as anything other than a racing machine. One thing that is of interest is that the stay caps are not the cast type in appearance, Might be the last of this fabricated type rather than the later Investment cast plugs, I have not seen enough '83's and '84's, the lugs and crown are the Henry James sourced units. Note the lug shape and that the "ring" adjacent to the headset parts is missing, and the semi sloping crown. Custom Masi's could be had, but were not encoruaged. Mostly for "sponsored" riders and track frames. |
Jim Allen (Masi painter) writes on the CR list.
