Peugeot

I have a white and blue Peugeot with Shimano light action components. It was my first road bike, and I bought it used for $200 when I was 13(12 years ago). Serial number is pe10dw 50 and
6071455. I attached some crappy pics from my phone. Also the down tube has a Mangalloy HLE sticker. It's been a great bike, and I've had quite a few since then. I'm not 5'7 like I was when I was 13, so I figured it should find a new home. Can anyone give me an idea of the vintage and approximate value? Thanks! |
Those levers and brake calipers look almost, if not completely, identical to late 80's Shimano 105. It's a bit hard to tell, due to the fuzzy photos. Assuming that they are 105 or similar components of the same vintage, that makes it a late 80's machine. I'm assuming that it's a 6-speed freewheel and shifters? 1987-89 is a pretty good bet for the vintage. I don't know anything about Peugeots, so I can't make an estimate on based on the frame. Why not check the back of the various components for date codes? You can figure out what they mean at http://www.vintage-trek.com. That'll give you a good estimate of the vintage of the frame.
The fact that it's not quite in rideable condition will hurt its value. I dunno... $125-$200 with tires and pedals? Maybe $75-$125 in its current condition? I would probably be willing to pay something in that range of prices (too bad I'm out of money and don't need another road bike, looks like it's about my size!). I'm sure someone with more expert knowledge will come along with better numbers for you, but that's what I'd be willing to pay as a consumer based on what little I know from your description and photos. |
HLE (propriatary Peugeot tubing) and Light action components (nothing odd or special) put the bike at the lower- to mid range end. I'd say 50-150, depending largely on the area you live in. HLE comes in sometime around 1984. Probably a 1986 model, by the serial number-- as Pugs become later, using the first digit of the s/n usually reveals the date. Earlier Peugeot bikes, this method doesn't work at all; I've three 60s/70s Pugs I've absolutely nailed down the date of manufacture for, and the serial number doesn't match year of manufacture.

Both HLE and Light Action are a good fit for the 1986 serrial number, but I'm wondering if it is not 1987 model made in late 1986, as my 1986 literature does not mention a PE10 or spec Shimano on any of the HLE models.

Thanks a ton! That's gives me some additional info!
I just put new rubber and tubes on it, so it's very rideable. I wish it still fit me. I guess I'll try craigslist first then move onto ebay. Thanks again. |
