Schwinn ID...
I got a pink Le Tour II today, and the serial number is E721417. I know there was just a thread where someone said how to figure out the date/location from the serial number, but I can't find it. The number is on the nondrive side dropout, and there is no number on the headbadge(it says Jaan though). Thanks.
edit: the flash bulb on my camera died, so no pics at night. |
I believe the 7 at the end points to 1977. Does this look helpful? Comes in Violet. Is that pink enough?

That's about right for the Schwinn violet. It is more of a fuchsia. My favorite schwinn color. I had a Suburban in that color years ago... with the matching fenders it was breathtaking!

In the catalogs the Le Tour II was available only in 1977. 76 was the Le Tour and 78 was Le Tour III.

Yeah, it does. Thanks for the info, and here's a reasonably sized photo of it. Some schmuck put white rectangular decals over the Schwinn decals, and they are on there pretty good. Do I have any chance of removing them without ruining the underlying decals? They aren't just stickers, either...they're much thicker, with really gnarly adhesive.

Goo-Be-Gone generally works good for taking sticker off. Roger

do you think it will it take of the schwinn decals underneath? i'm hoping they'll be able to come away unscathed from whatever happens, although i'd rather just have the paint than those white rectangles, if those are the only options.

Before trying Goo be Gone, try heating it with a hair dryer. This might heat and losen the adhesive on the tape enough for you to peel off the sticker. Be very very careful with Goo be Gone. It can remove your paint, which looks great (and red not pink)! Very nice looking LeTour.

it's definitely the pink (or "violet") color, it just came out looking red in the photo. my camera stinks.

If its been out in the sun a lot/long it could change colors.. if you ever over haul your bottom bracket take a look at the color in there to be sure. I had a old 70s ccm once that which was originally red and turned pink.

Okay... the color I was thinking of was Schwinn "Flamingo"...
