I'm interested in the "kickstand" for the front tire. I haven't seen one of those in a LONG time. I used to have one, and I liked the way it holds the front wheel straight so you can lean the bike without it falling over. Care to sell it?

dijos 01-30-07 11:50 AM

are you selling the pedals? I could use them.

PM sent.

OK - it's stripped. The more I look at it, the more I wish I could build it. It really is a classic looking frame. Oh, well. I'll pop it onto CL with a full disclaimer and see what happens.

Dent is under the second "I":

You're really tempting me to go pick up the blue International that is sitting on the back of a shelf at my co-op. Decals and lugs looked the same, though I don't think it had the upgrade components that yours did. It really is a very nice looking frame, which sort of perplexes me because of the relatively cheap tubes (and orig components). I guess fashion is cheaper than function most of the time.

Really though, it is a sleek-looking frame and I am feeling more and more compelled to go get the blue one. I think it might be a little big for me, so maybe I won't be able to justify putting a seventh bike in my 1 bedroom apartment, that I have to pack and move from in June. But it would make such a pretty wet-weather SS......

For the record, those target faces are hanging there for a reason. Those two (and two others that are not pictured), are what is known in the rifle competition world as "clean" targets - 10 out of 10 in the 10/X ring. Perfect scores, fired during competition when it counted....... :) Fired prone, open sights, at 200 yards - back when I competed at the state level. You want a hobby that eats time and money, start campaigning on the shooting circuit.

All right, based on the information given, I'd say...168 grains is the standard weight of the .308 calibre match bullet.

Getting back OT, does a correct guess mean I win the Bridgestone :D ?

But you know, BlankCrows's friends would find those things irresistably shiny.

Well, now that I've officially announced it's been stripped, the parts requests are coming in. If you see something you need, let me know soon...... :)

What's so bad about double butted chromoly and high tensile stays? They're strong and it's a touring bike so weight isn't such a huge issue. Decent mass produced frames.

I concur, and I would put this particular International almost on par with my own mixed tubeset frames: Peugeot PKN-10E and Bianchi Campione d'Italia. However, I would be very concerned about that dent in the downtube, so I would vote to scrap the frame and salvage everything else.

Agreed, I feel the internationals with cantilevers are more valuable because cantilever touring rigs with 700c wheels are harder to come by. I am currently having my frame powder coated "channel green" a sort of british racing green, it'll be a budget one stage with zero depth but it's cheep and I am stripping the fork to chrome... tan tape and a honey brooks should give it some class though.

OK - it's a done deal. I got someone to drive 25 miles and pay $40. Yes - even with full disclosure about the dent, the frameset went out the door for $40. Quickly. And he was in love with it..... :D

Seems it's gonna be a fixie in Oakland, and the guy promised to send me pics when it's built. If he does, I'll post it here.

The Nishiki lives on.......

Anyone bag the Suntour racheting barcons yet?

Could use the pair...or if someone has a single barcon without a mate, I'm game for that too, as I have one mint barcon myself.

Take care,

-Kurt

Glad the Nishiki lives on it will be asharp looking SS. I am the proud owner of 3 internationals. Bought my first in 81 ($600). pick up I think a 78 thrift shop $25. and a I think a 82ish for $10, which is just stripped down. There great, comfortable bikes.

Sorry - they're gone.

Here's what's left: crank, dérailleurs, brakes, stem, wheelset, and seat post. And the wheels are already earmarked for another project.

The guy that bought the frame had come by to check out an old mid-80's Schwinn frame I had listed. I showed him the Nishiki to give him a choice, and he liked it a lot better - both for its' aesthetic qualities and for the fact that it had almost no braze-ons (just the one by the RD). Also, I included a freshly installed and adjusted BB to seal the deal.

But is it for .308 NATO or .30/06? My guess is .308 NATO.

Bigbossman,
Have you ever ventured east to Camp Perry? I am just a few miles from there.

WOW! Great price! You did very well.

TimJ 02-02-07 06:58 PM

What sort of crank is that? Is the big ring fixed to the crank or is it a regular arms and rings setup?

.308, but I use the same bullet for both, as they are both .30 caliber rounds.

Camp Perry - yeah....... At the apex of my competition days (year 2001), I fired a good enough score at the California State Highpower matches to earn a spot on the state team going to Camp Perry for the Nationals. Unfortunately, I got laid off and could not afford to make the trip. :( It is a missed chance that haunts my thoughts to this day, but at the time I could not see risking my family's financial well-being for a little self-indulgence.

Coincidentally, that is when I started in on rehabilitating broken down bikes. I was out of work for an extended time (.com boom/bust), and needed something to keep me busy. Overhauling cast-off bikes was cheap, kept me busy, and was very therapeutic. I turned out to be a pretty fair bike mechanic, and was able to make a little pocket change in the bargain.

I've long since been gainfully employed - but fixing/riding bikes stuck, which ultimately led me here. Now you know more than you ever wanted about me - aren't you glad you asked? :D

I was pretty surprised it went for that much, but the buyer seemed pretty excited to get it. I think it did well because it was pretty, and the fixie folks don't like braze-ons. This frame had only one braze-on and a RD hanger - both easily dealt with.

It is a Sugino Super Maxi. Both rings are bolted to and can be removed from the spider.

bigbossman 02-05-07 02:41 PM

Well - looks like the crank might get sent off for someone to use, and the wheelset is now being held for a BF member.

Looks like this Nishiki got scattered all over the yard! Nothing left but the dérailleurs, shifters, stem, post, and brakes. :)

bigbossman 02-07-07 06:48 PM

Wow - I don't believe this.....

Those Mathauser brake pads sold for $20 on eBay. Thanks for the heads-up, as I probably would have tossed them.

mswantak 02-07-07 06:50 PM

Hmmm. The set I had must've been past their shelf life or something; I wasn't especially impressed with them.
