Austro Daimler

I just dug this out of my basement, a friend of mine got it from a pawnshop when he was a teenager, he gave it to me about ten years ago, all I did was add tires and brake pads, pretty good shape I think. Enjoy.

That Huret front DR is no problem, the weird Suntour might present more of a challenge!

Tom

The bike is great! The Dallas Cowboys license plate in the backround is unacceptable in Philadelphia!:D

BlankCrows 02-05-07 09:45 AM

What model is it? Probably a better AD with the forks made of 531 too.

John E 02-05-07 10:02 AM

Very nice, but I am sort of biased in favor of Austrian bikes. :)

Thanks fro the kind words TBART :) UNWORTHY1, its Suntour mounteck? prob an add on? dont know? but it works sweetly! FENDER1, yeah, my wifes been a diehard Cowboys fan since BEFORE I met her, bout 25 years now! and she is a Philadelphian born and raised! LOL! BLANKCROWS, I never knew the model? Ive looked it up in the past and have found a lot of different models and all have the names on the top post and such, but this one just says the name "AUSTR DAIMLER" and thats all? JOHN E, I tend to go for any bike that catches my eye ;) not into any certain style or type, I have bikes that ride like tanks but look so good that I ride em anyways! LOL! Heres a pic, she rides like a Sherman tank, and heavy as one too! but you have to admit, shes a pretty girl! LOL!

ts Suntour mounteck? prob an add on? dont know? but it works sweetly! Well if it works, then don't worry about it...I just recall Suntour fans slagging off on this particular rear derailleur (Mountech with huge jockey pulley) as their worst design, but others may just love them who knows! Anyway, it's made to wrap a LOT of chain, so it's not working at all on that little rear cluster. The Huret is designed for a triple, so that's a fairly good choice for the triple crank you have...I'd guess that this bike came with a touring set-up when new and probably used a Huret Duopar in the rear. Nice bike, probably a 531 main triangle and fork blades and likely a tourist...I'd rotate those handlebars UP a bit :)

I like the paint and decals on your Ferrari bike. I have done the same thing myself when I repaint an old bike that isn't worth getting reproduction decals. I make up my own names and models. I'll use foreign words that sound nice when they roll off the tongue, sometimes they even mean something.

How do you like the firefighting in this weather? We had a barn fire last night. It was a loss before we arrived, but it was still a challenge to keep water flowing so it didn't catch the house next door. Any water on the ground became an instant skating rink. But nobody got hurt and the new guys got to learn something about cold weather firefighting.

TimJ 02-05-07 03:15 PM

Very cool.

I've read Suntour Mountech was technically a really cool, well-working derailleur, the top pulley is on it's own spring or something like that, and though it works great in the lab, it was sealed poorly and would easily get gunked up which is of course bad for a mountain bike derailluer. It makes sense since that bike's got a triple, apparently they are good touring bike derailleurs. I dunno if it would be original but it could handle really big gear ratios thanks to the floating pulley.

infinityeye 02-05-07 05:07 PM

same coloring as my '83 Inter-10. I love AD"S

Jet Travis 02-05-07 05:53 PM

Nice AD! My very first bike was an Austro-Daimler that I bought in 1978. I gave it to my brother and he still rides it.

+1 on both comments

Although I am tempted to find the orig rear derailer, I really like the way this one works, very smooth, very easy shifting, as for fire fighting, I havnt done it for about six years now, due to injury, but I dont miss running around soaked in water in freeezing temps! LOL! we used to go back into the fire to keep warm! LOL! I think about it now and it still sounds crazy! LOL! my Ferrari bike is actually a Derby, it was a rusted out POS when I got it, so I just painted the frame and slapped ever part it needed on it including autnebtic Ferrari decals! and whalla! Ferrari Bikeinstein came to life! :D but heres are two pic, before and after, of my all orig Colsen Commander (thanks guy for not making me remove the pics) note the NOS Delta Rocket light! I have the NOS rear light just havnt mounted it yet.
