Any info on Basso?
 

I'm looking for a nice steel framed bike. From the looks of this one I may have found what I want. Does anyone know about Basso bikes?

Basso's are excellent. Some look as nice as Masi's. (seatstay bridges are similar) I'd try to get it at the $269 price because $300 plus $40 shipping is a bit high.

I saw that bike, don't know much about Basso but the BIN price seems very reasonable.

That's a big frame, you fit a 62cm?

You won't be disappointed with a Basso...more akin to a Colnago than a Masi IMHO, but why split hairs? It's a good make, if it fits and the price is right, go for it.

I have that exact frame in a 56, not in quite as good condition, though

(But I got it for free, so I'm not complaining;)

He's had that frame listed before, and originally had the buy it now at $400......

Man, it's hard to buy a frame on E-Bay without any knowledge.

dekalbSTEEL, does your bike have 700c wheels? What year is your bike? Any comments about the quality and ride of the bike? How about the fit? Do you feel streched out on it?

It most definitely is 700c. I've never ridden one, but I've only heard good about them.

I never rode it. It is also an 84. A customer of mine saved it from being THROWN OUT by a neighbor who was moving. He had no use for it so he just gave it to me. When I received it, it was missing the RD, crank and BB, and chain, as shown in the first pic. I stripped it down to the frame with the intention of having it repainted. I took it to 2 of my LBS's and both guys raved about the quality and craftsmanship of the frame. If you're looking for a smooth riding steel frame, I'm sure you'll be pleased with it. It does take an Italian BB, by the way.

Oh, and another thing, I had no problem fitting a modern 10 speed rear wheel in the dropouts.

Got my Basso frame from this guy for a very reasonable price. I'm not sure if it's SL or SLX, but with a Record headset and a carbon fork, I wasn't about to pass it up! The Basso name comes from Marino, Renato, and Alcide Basso, three brothers who started the company in 1977 in Vicenza, Italy. Very high quality frames with a modest racing pedigree. They've always been one of the sleepers of the Italian road bike scene, which essentially translates to good values on eBay.

I remember the (respected, late and lamented) mag Bicycle Guide had a story on Basso and reviewed a Basso bike years ago and gave them huge raps.
