Batavus

Nice old Batavus for the shorter folks.

This one is still around on the local C/L. I don't know much of Batavus, but is it worth $100 to strip for the D/A parts and what could the frame bring? Claim they paid $800 in the mid 80's.....

Yes, most probably.
This should be a ca. 1984 "Professional" model (ask if it's written on the top tube).
That model was available as frame only, but also came with the Batavus top models' "traditional" full Dura Ace EX (so I'd make shure that the group is complete).

greybeard87, if you go purchase this mixte, and it's a tiny little frame, could I possibly get you to let me know the size, please? Thanks.

I would be all over that if it was around me.

Mixte

Easthill, I am not sure this is a Mixte frame. The pic at the Craigslist site shows a standard "mens" frame, just really small.

Thank you for spotting my error, you are correct, evwxxx. I have mixtes on the brain, eh? But it still looks to be a tiny little frame, and thus may possibly be small enough for even me...so I am still interested, especially if it is under 49 cm.

But on criagslist it says that it's a Raleigh.....

East Hill 02-11-07 12:33 AM

Hehehehe, it does, doesn't it?

All right, I'm confused. But it's still a small frame, and that's what counts for me!

:D No, its in Raleigh, Not A Raleigh......
Yesterday was a bust if its still available I'll check it out today.
I'll advise of the frame size.....

Cheap, cheap, cheap. I could put those components, if clinchers, on a 56-58cm frame (something like the SF CL $30 Centurion Ironman) and sell it for over $200 easily here, and I'd still have a 531 frame that fits someone.

East Hill 02-11-07 08:25 AM

So, it's a small 'man's' bike, located in Raleigh, make is Batavus. Have I finally got that straight?

At any rate, if it's still available, and you strip the frame, could you check to see if it's under 49 cm?

I'm tired of being five feet tall. Would anyone like to trade for a couple of days :roflmao: ?

Batavus, followed me home

I couldn't resist and brought it home today. Maybe it was the Dutch accent :D

It is the "Professional" with 531 frame and fork, Full Dura Ace groupset front to rear incuding headset, seatpost, shifters, and stem. Sweet.

East Hill, I did a quick measurement at 49.5. I plan to strip it down this weekend will get some pictures and some more exact measurements.

The guy also had a set of really nice Mavic (red label) tubular (forget the model but tubular equivalent of MA-40) wheels with Campy Record hubs, very lightly used. He wanted $70 for them and also had a well used set of the same. I shot my bike budget for a while and don't run any tubulars so I passed:rolleyes: .

Sounds like you got a deal! Here's a scan from a 1984 brochure Batavus sent me in the my quest for more info on a Competition model (I paid more and got less, by the way:p )

If you are interested in a larger version, I can email it to you. Translation services not included, though there is a BF member "Batavus" who offered help with translations on a thread I posted.

Oh man, if those are the correct measurements it is just a hair too large for me then. The Nishiki Pro I've got measures 48cm, and it is "just" short enough--there is absolutely NO standover even at the 48cm, so I don't want to go any bigger.

It sounds as if you picked up a bargain though. Do let me know if it turns out that the frame is smaller than the quick measurement.
