27" tires in Colors
Does any one know of a source for Colored 27" tires.
I was hoping to find some NOS in Red or Blue. Slim chance but worth a try Thanks |
Bump. Does anyone know about coloured 27" tyres?

I can't say that I've ever seen them. I suspect the 27" market is no longer large enough to justify it. I wonder if you could color a skinwall or gumwall using an indelible marker?
|
I'll have to try that! I think I've read that the BMX folks do that? Or is it the rims? But it's worth a shot, unless Blender wants yellow tyres...I don't think that would turn out well.

+1 on the Vittoria Phoenix, I picked up two sets a month apart but in Grey with off white sidewalls. They apparently had some QC problems as my 1st set of 27 X 1 1/4 were a bit fatter than the 700X32s on my Touring bike & had a thick tread, which delighted me but the 2nd set of the same size were more like the 700 X 23s on some of my other bikes. Still a buy at $10each & I should have ordered more, the fat set is still going strong! Don

Thanks, A LBS had some colored 27's they could not get rid of for years but sold them to a guy for a lot price. He could not remember who though.
I was thinking that there is some old stock lying around and I may jog someones memory. They dont even need to be new The project is a Bicentenial Varsity. Thought it would be cool to have Red or Blue or both tires. I could always pick up some 700C Rims. I see lots of choices in that size. It is a varsity though so I'm not loking to spend too much I have plenty of 27" gum walls ill try and color |
Putting 700c rims on a Varsity sounds kind of questionable with the existing brakes. Even with extra, extra long (like 75mm reach) calipers it would be a stretch, then your marginal braking would probably be even worse. Some of us need to figure out a way to build up mtb disc brake hubs for 120/126mm rear triangle old school bikes and rig up the calipers, rotors and brake levers that would be required.
Man that would be interesting (though not historically correct) and would work much better than the original design. Then you could run 700c tires and have a huge selection of tire widths and tread colors. |
I would be happy if I could find 27x1 gum or skin walls.
|
I have two 27's with skin walls. I'll see what the condition is. I live in pittsburgh though and everyone is from the west coast, so shipping would be not cost effective.

I bet there are still a couple of the ten bizzillion Varsitys they made around so I could forgo historical correctness. A semi-modernized Bicentenial VARSITY has enough Americana in it to withstand the HC criticism. |

http://www.biketiresdirect.com/searc...1321&c=7170923 or try here: http://www.bikepartsusa.com/view.asp...e&f_c2=27+inch I've installed the IRC, 27x1, Triathlon-Duro, Kevlar Belted, tires on my Paramount but wasn't able to do so until after the snow started flying--- so I haven't ridden on them yet. I've used the Panaracers but in the 1 & 1/8s and 1 & 1/4s. |
