What chain on Nuovo Record derailleur?

I'm building up an 80s Colnago frame that supposedly can accomodate 130 mm spacing. I have a Nuovo Record rear derailleur, vintage. Is there any way to tell what size chain will work on the derailleur? I wouldn't mind having more gears on the bike, but I figure the derailleur will need a wider chain, based on its age, correct?

The more cogs on the freewheel, the narrower the chain. I run a "9-speed" chain on one of my bikes using an NR derailleur and it shifts fine. But I am only running six cogs and I have never tried an NR on more than 7 cogs.

A Nuovo Record may not have enough displacement to pick up more than 8, later Super Records while looking the same basically are a wee bit different, and should swallow 8, never tried 9, worth a try, but the overall gear range might decrease as the parallelogram will swing closer to the axle at the full inboard travel, which is not what one wants. Now you see the beauty in the Suntour design, that everyone grabbed when the patent ran out, Shimano being first.

I got a copy on CD of some Campagnolo patents from the era, it looks like they were desperate to find an alternative, Campagnolo was the one to originate the patents, having to buy design was not in the world view, of course they did a bit later when Look took over the road pedal market, post SGR.

Campagnolo could not even bring themselves to steal the slant parallelogram concept for a few years after Shimano adopted it, if they had Syncro might have been better from the beginning.
