Metallic Red decision II: Poll for the contenders!

(Moving this over to C&V for some input here for a while)

Ok, after a fair bit of looking, adding, removing, adding again, etc, I've narrowed the field to 5 finalists.

Build plan: 86 Serotta Nova with decals in white with black outline. Campagnolo Super Record group, 14speed.

Will either have a Honey Brooks Saddle with Honey Brooks leather wrap - or - San Marco Rolls saddle and black Cinelli cork wrap.

06 or 07 Mustang Metallic Red (Redfire) - has a bit of an warm orange hue:

06 XLR in Infared - a cooler more burgundy color.

Matador Red Metallic - a warm but not orange color:

And "Blaze Red Crystal Pearlcoat" as seen on this Crossfire - another well balanced hue:

The Corvette Anniversary color, back on the table after seeing better photos of it, more of a burgundy:

tell us about your brooks saddle and leather bar wrap colors and maybe even post pics of them. I like the vette burgandy with the honey colored saddle and bar wrap and maybe outlline the lugs to match saddle.

Since the Vette is made by Chevy, it's probably the same color I brought up earlier with the Chevy Impala. It's a nice color, I like it.

KT, it's probably pretty close. Not sure if the color they used for the 40th Vette was a one off color or not, but it is pretty.

Something to consider would be how easy it is to match stuff to the color selected. I like the Blaze Crystal myself.

I vote for the Mustang metallic; it seems to have a violet hue to it which I like. I don't see the orange, but that's just me . . . and my computer.

Found a picture of the Blaze Crystal color in the sun since the rest of the shots are outdoor shots to get an idea of what it would look like. I like all of the colors (hense why I'm having a hard time deciding). The matching aspect is one thing, though I'll likely go with black cable housing, etc for the most part.

BillyD, you might be right. I've looked at it with a couple different monitors and I think the older pic I had of it was throwing a more orange color to it. My sister's new mustang is that color so I may have to drive over there and look at it in the sun again myself.

how about a metallic russett with a few layers of brite candy red over it? a shimmering medium aluminum flake with a candy red coat would also look sharp if you want a brighter red.

are these colors that are available from serotta or are they mixing them for you?

edit: the reds in your pics all look like cough syrup on my monitor.

cough syrup? Well I suppose if you want to think of that color in those terms.

Paint will be done by a local framebuilder, he can get just about any automotive paint color out there, short of a few IMRON Fleet colors and such. Serotta has two reds - one is the bright red gloss, the other is a candy apple red. Neither quite what I am after.

I like the red on the vette the best for the saddle and bar tape your planning on. Or the matador red on the Lexus.

The Lexus is the only car that doesn't scream "toothless" or "daddy's girl".

So go with the Lexus.

Cypress. I'm not buying the car!

Seems like the majority of you are agreeing with what I'd have to admit are my top two. The Lexus or the Vette color. Both are seriously nice colors, but quite different from each other (as much as metallic reds can be I suppose).

Oh, and I've decided that the saddle will likely not be the Brooks. I'll likely sell/trade it for an Aliante of some sort to put on the Flyte. Just put a loaner one on and really like it.

The Lexus was the only real high quality car, but given they were free I'd take the Vette.

Here's a Serotta that is simular to what I'm hoping to get the look of. Now that I've seen the yellow decal I'm half tempted to go that route instead of white. Great, more decisions. (Photo thanks to Rich on the Serotta forum)

go silver on the vette burgundy, though if you are going honey brooks and and bar wrap yellow would compliment it nicely.

Although I don't have a favorite, I will offer my 2 cents even though you didn't really ask for it.
The Brooks honey saddle is a warm tone tan. The Vette color is a very cool red, has a blue cast to it (it's a very striking color, as my stupid cousin drives a n anniversary Vette). I would consider using a red that is warm, with more of an orange look to it.
Go with the white decals, I don't think the yellow will look right with the Brooks honey saddle and tape.

I also like doghairs ideas, especially the russet under the brite candy red. Now that would look snazzy.

All that yellow makes it look like a circus wagon.

IMHO, I'd go with the honey brooks saddle and bar tape, tho lettering would have a gold border instead of black. The black will get lost against the deep reds, where as the gold will contrast nicely and be oh so classy.

Just my two cents.
