How do I inflate Dunlop valves?

I have no idea how these things work, and the bike even came with a hand pump. I still can't figure this out--does the valve cap need to be loose or tight, and do I need to do anything to the core? Thanks. I feel like I'm failing an IQ test because they're so tantalizingly similar to presta and yet nothing works.

If I'm not mistaken...

Loosen valve top slightly, put pump on, fill

Leave cap on tight, put pump on, fill

...or: None of the above.

The core does have to remain in the valve though - that I remember

New tubes not a bad idea at all, but if you want to stick with the Woods valves, you treat them like presta valves with nothing to unscrew. In other words, use a pump with a presta chuck. I use my floor pump, but the woods valves are finicky about having the chuck positioned just right.

Yeah, I have no love for these valves, but they're stock on an electric bike and a PITA to get off.

In the meanwhile, I've discovered that the cores don't transfer air. So, unscientifically I started poking holes in the cores and that got it to work, but I fear small leaks in the future. I'll be using presta soon. But I wanted to try the bike NOW!!!!

Sheldon Browns' Glossary has a write-up on them under W. W for Woods valve. Older European things. Sounds like replacing them with Schrader tubes or Presta (with a valve hole adaptor) would work.
