Anyone know about early Apollo tandems?

Some numbskull looking for the "highest bidder" just posted this on the local C-list:

Looks like a typical piece of American garbage (built like a tank, and still whippy when all is said and done) looking a bit worse for wear, but the rear-facing drops and slack frame angles have me curious.

I did not say that - it looks like an interesting, engaging project, even if it is a gas pipe special, although I'd be worried about freeing up the adjustable BB shell up front.

And as for other spoilers, the thing is 10 miles away, and for two, get a load of the seller's text:

ANTIQUE APOLLO TANDEM BIKE...Barn Fresh Antique 2 person bicycle...I am trying to determine it's value...it is for sale to the highest bidder. any information on this bike would be appreciated.
Either he's fishing for the value, and won't actually sell it, or you know darn well that if some joker offers him $250 and doesn't pick it up, he'll be an a$$hole to every other idiot who comes along.

For that matter, he could just as well refuse to sell it between the time I drive to his place, if someone gives him a higher offer in the intrem. Too many things to go wrong, too idiotic a seller to bother with.

I know nothing about Apollos, but I just picked-up a 1964 Dilecta Touring Tandem (in far better condition, with drop bars, & leather saddles), plus a 1964 Dilecta Road Bike, Reynolds 531, Ideale #5, triple ring. Bikes will need tires, cables, pads, the usual maintenance type items, plus a box of various parts - NOS Huret derailleurs, MAFAC tool kit, cups, stems, axles. The price was less than the asking for the Apollo. Located in CT.

Kurt,

I'd be careful looks as if this might be from the set of Gilligan's Island. Are you certain it's not made of bambo?

I'm certain the bike isn't bamboo, but the seller is more then obviously smoking it. Get a load of his reply to me. Guess I know the typical tactics of the local dummies far too well - I'm beginning to second-guess them:

I will try to find out the answers for you tomorrow....I do not have pictures of it upright I found it as you see it....I have an offer of $300 already.
Numbskull!

Just tell him, "Good for you." Bet he's still looking for a buyer this time next week.
