Stronglight Cranks - what's the deal?

I watched this ebay sale, amazed. What's the deal about Stronglight? I think my Nervar cranks are nicer.

There were loads more bikes that came with the SL 93 than came with Nervar Stars...and I won't take sides, I like them both. So the market wants loads more SL 93s to complete a restoration or return an old Peugeot to original specs, etc. etc. I don't think $70 is out of line for a complete set with dustcaps. Last, chainrings are still *fairly* easy to come by for the SL, but I bet you have to really search for those Nervars, no?

Nothing wrong with your Nervars, but the star shape of the 93's looks sharp on a period bike. This one also had the dustcaps and was already tapped for [non-french] pedals. the 93 crankset was OE on many 70's bikes owned on this forum including Gitanes and Peugeots, so there is a built in demand.

Nervar Stars look even better without the chainguard ring.

Nervars have one big advantage over Stronglights, in that one can readily adapt a ring with a standard 130mm BCD to fit a 128mm Nervar spider (been there ... done that).

I did take the chainguard off for a while since I'm using the bike as a SS now. I also ran into 130 BCD and changed the crank in order to use a smaller chainring. I left everything reversible, though I'll probably replace the dérailleurs and shifters with cyclone 7000 if I convert back.
I have a set of Normandy high flange hubs [same as originals] on Ebay. If they don't sell I may build my first wheelset as replacements.
