Any ideas on removing this seatpost??

There was no seat clamp on the bike. the post was wrapped with duct tape and probably ridden for years. So I've got a seatpost essentially glued in. I dont care about ruining the post. Ive been soaking it with Goo-B-Gone all morning. So far I havent been able to get it to budge with my biggest visegrips. Ideas??

Put a seat on it before you try anything else, and use that to pull.

I've always had good luck with a hairdryer. Use it to heat up the area where the seat post is in the tube, and it will heat the seat tube(and cause it to expand) before it heats the post. Wave it around for maybe 10 seconds and give it a good yank...if it doesn't work, try it for longer.

Crack it - if you can either drill or saw through the post where the seat clamp is, you could do a number of things. Either the post will collapse at that point and you can get it out, you might be able to pry it off with a screwdriver, or you've at least removed some weight.

Also, start pouring chemicals on that sucker. super-lightweight oil/lube, penetrating oil, acetone, rubbing alcohol, all these things could contribute to solving your problem. Just, uh, make sure it's well-ventilated.

Careful work with a propane torch has worked in the past for me, but it made me so nervous I'm never doing it again.

I have to do this almost once a week.

Spray with PB Blaster. Heat post with propane torch until PB Blaster is smoking. Stop heating. Spray more PB Blaster in as it cools. Let sit until totally cool. Put post in bench vise. Yank on frame. If it does not budge, repeat. Usually works on the first try though.

 ...I hope you wear a gas mask, or are at least old enough that it doesn't matter if you don't.

Thanks for all the ideas!!

I inititally tried tightening the seat and using it for leverage, but it kept slipping on the post.

Currently the post/seattube are setting in a chem bath overnite, then tomorrow I will begin again. I'll be trying some of these ideas tomorrow, I'll post post again tomorrow and let you know the results.

-Cheers!!

Remove the bottom bracket, and pack the bottom end of the seat tube with black powder..... :)
