My bike is for sale on e-bay...but I already bought it!
I was searching e-bay to get a price value of my frame I am pondering selling. I came across this add...I do not believe what I see but that bikes looks exactly like the bike I bought...The listing says Aluminum frame set...we all know that Reynolds 753 is steel.
When I bought my bike from craigslist the seller said it was aluminum also...He also said the bike was very light. I know for a fact that the bike doesn't weigh 18.6LBS The bike looks so much like the bike I already bought. The location of the photo looks like the same neighbrohood where I bought the bike.
Is this a stupid coincidence or what? My bike came with the exact same wheels and goofy reflector on top of the handlebars. The saddle is exactly the same. The thing that gets me is the fact that the cyclocomputer attached was the same exact brand that I had. I know Cateye is very common. But the tape marks are in the exact same spot. Could this be a scam? Or perhaps the seller has a duplicate bike...I recently sold the Mavic GP4 tubular wheels that came with the bike...My wheels had reflectors and spoke protectors in the exact same spot as the photo.
I stripped my bike and converted to fixed gear. I am pretty certain that the spoke reflectors/handlebar reflectors are more than likely aftermarket...If anybody is curious about this I can send photos my frame and wheels. You will see that the spoke protector/reflector is in the exact same spoke pattern. I really do not believe this. I removed the front reflector from my wheels. I swear this is the exact same bike I bought...What gives...

Maybe that's why they kept the bidder's names private.
I say contact ebay right away and see if they can up a hold on the auction.
EDIT: may just be a coincidence, check what originally came with the bike, if it's the stuff you described then leave it be.

I guess the easiest thing to do is, e-mail the seller. Ask if you can stop by to see the bike. If he says no, then it sure looks like a scam.

Oh my god folks...I just noticed another thing about this item...No Joke please take a look at the bike...You will notice that there is a small sticker on the bottom of the seat tube. My bike also features that same decal. It is off gold in the e-bay photo...I am going to post photos ASAP...This is too wrong...

Look at the spoke protector and position of the reflector...the exact same as my bike...
Now look at my frame...Notice the gold sticker on the seat tube...I did remove one bottle cage...and yes mine had the black plastic on top just like the one ebay...
I dont know what to do. I don't want to appear slanderous. This is just truly absurd.

Damn, I really hate ebay scampers.
I was scammed once on ebay, I bought a PS2 right after it came out, I thought it was great because I saved like $50 on it. Well 9 days later and I don't have anything and I assume they flaked on me. Anyways I get the package the next day. I rip open the packaging, I was soooo close, I had already bought the controller, the memory card, the TV adapter and I had it all ready to go 2 minutes after I receive the shipment. To my surprise it is packaged very well, lots of foam peanuts in a big box. After carefully dumping all of the peanuts into the garbage (those things take forever to find if you spread them around) the PS2 box is ready to be dissected. First I slice open the tape, which is kind of sloppy, must have rushed it to the stores I think. The cardboard packaging inside seems to be stuck, so I give it a little tug, nothing. I finally tear the two pieces apart....... only to find a small phone book and a picture of a stranger outside my bedroom window. In horror I look and see that very window covered with feces, except for the place where my tormentor spelled out this: you just fell for the trap.

It may not be a scam, somebody may have snagged the pictures to use. It happens all the time. I sold a couple of unusual tractor pieces on ebay and about 2 weeks later "my" parts were back on ebay I emailed the seller to find out WTF was going on, seems he didn't have pictures of his so he "borrowed" my pictures to use. Needless to stay a complaint was filed and the pictures removed.

To the OP, unless it is the same guy...I would suspect nearly identical bikes.

I had a pk10 about a year ago. I sold it at my yard sale. before the yard sale "my bike" was posted here on the forum by a guy that just got it off ebay. That guy resold it on ebay and I used the auction in progress to show potential buyers what a good deal thay were getting from me. It was the same situation as here, it was the same everything and if photos had been taken in my back yard thay would have looked the same. both bikes had a scratch on the fork in the same place. In all of my searching for a peugeot those two were the only two I have seen with that decal set. What does the small gold sticker on your seat tube say, is it a factory sticker? The bike is in the bay area is that whare you are from? The seller is relatively new but has 100% positive feed back , thats better then my score(98% I backed out of a buy my bad) I dont think you should get the auction flaged on a maybe.

Sorefeet could buy it for spare parts or photos at least, of it prior to being dismembered.

sore feet, i saw that ebay sale too. i was going to PM you. if i remember you were going to part it out and sell the frame, but the one on ebay is complete. i remember when you bought the bike off of San Francisco CL i was thinking of buying the same bike, those pics look exactly like the ones from CL .
look at the sellers/buyers feedback ALL private, and the winners of most of his auctions are new, or have changed there IDs. also most of the stuff bought and sold is 1 cent crap. this is a scam.
someone win it, ask to pick up or where to send the money order, and kick the crap outta this bum.

if you go to pick it up and he's there with the bike will you still kick the crap outta the bum or will you buy it? If you get a street address for mailing and ambush the guy will you ever be sure he didnt have the bike ready to ship or will you ransack his house to make sure before you kick his butt and if you find it there then what? Dont mean to stick up for a scamer but I think your idea is flawed

ya i know the idea is flawed, but that is assuming the seller actually has the bike, and i really doubt it. looking at the history of people who left feedback shows that everything they bought was 1 cent stuff, just to get feedback from other scammers.
again, i agree my plan isn't well thought out. and if i did win, i wouldn't have the funds to fly out to zimbabwe, to pick it up the bike or check the guy's story out
