Recommendations for my 70's Superbe Group
I've been waiting for a frame to put my Suntour Superbe Group on but have not seen anything lately to speak of. Really I've been looking for the top end Japanese frames but curious what the forum would do. Wait for that period correct Japanese frame or put the group on something else that would be period correct. Need Thoughts. Thanks.

Should go on a Raleigh Superbe (the Japanese made, gold road machine that is) :D

Take your time. Wait for something that really gets your pulse up. I am partial to 3Rensho, but a Zunow would be way cool as would the previously mentioned Raleigh Superbe.

theres a 79 soma competition frame for sales at my local bike shop

I don't know that you have to stick to Japanese frames ... a lot of the British lightweights of that era were sold as framesets only, and while you certainly see most of them built up with Nuovo Record or Super Record, you also see quite a few with Shimano 600, Shimano Golden Arrow, early Dura-Ace, and Superbe. While it's not period correct, I've got a pristine Shimano 600 Arabesque group which I'm going to use on a '70's Bob Jackson which I'm restoring. I think it'll look just fine, thank you, and should work pretty well, too.

That's what the Bossman said to me when we had a conversation a few weeks back. Funny you should say a "Zunow Hummingbird" as there was one on CL near me about 6 months back. Beautiful Bike by the way. I just get impatient. While we're on the talk of Superbe, look at this auction I was eyeing yesterday. Can't believe the price these arms went for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6920&rd=1&rd=1 |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6920&rd=1&rd=1 eBay is funny. I wanted gold Simplex Super LJ for a long time, and watched used RDs going for over $150. Then the bottom drops out and I watched an NOS set go for under $200. I bought a very nice RD for around $75, then proceeded to get two FD and a RD for $75. Then a month later the prices were back in the stratosphere. Superbe seems to go the same way. Superbe Pro gets really crazy. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...6920&rd=1&rd=1 They're not suberbe pro either and they are the exact same as super mighty cranks (I'm sure they are manufactured by sugino).. incidently the superbe hubs I mentioned in an above post came from a Zunow. |
