Idea of the day

When I switched the levers on my daughter's bike I lost the adjusters. Mafrac put them on the levers and the Weinman/Dia-Compe folks put them on the hangers or calipers. So with boredom looming, snow falling yet again, and tools at hand I put some adjusters on the Weinman levers by drilling and tapping the bushing on the top of the lever.

Works like a charm.

 What a brilliant idea! I wish I had thought of that.

Along with being nice for adjustability, it is also a good unique feature making it easy to identify the bike if "misplaced".

Is using a tap tricky, or if I have a need, should I pick up a set to do some threading?

using a tap is quite easy, I have threaded the rear cable stops on a couple touring bikes and added an adjuster, it works great!

And you put suicide levers on your daughter's bike?

I did, with no shame.
This is her first road bike, and bike with drops. I want her to be as comfortable as possible until she gets her feet under her.
I set the brakes up with the safety levers from scratch, re-shaped the levers a bit, and they work perfectly-you can lock the front or rear with the safety levers. There's nothing wrong with them if set up properly. But they almost never are:(
AND I promised bifters for her next build-a mid eighties Shogun 400 about 52cm:D
