WHy can't I wrap with cloth
 

I have done one side and it wasn't to my satisfaction. Now I am trying to do it to another set of bar but it is slack on the inside and eventually this has to go somewhere which is usually a big ugly lump of some sort. Is there some special trick to wrapping with cloth?

It's not the prettiest stuff to wrap with, just make sure you stretch the **** out of it.

i just go real slow, and pull real tight. i think the trick is to keep good tension and even overlap. ive done some pretty ugly wraps, but after a few times i can wrap my bars just as good as anyone. good luck.

I can do it real well, but I can't explain it really, only show it. I keep the tape tight as I wrap, and sort of wiggle it as I go around bends. Like I said, you've almost got to see it.

If your fingers aren't sore the next day, you didn't get it tight enough.

I've found that the less you overlap, the easier it is to be free of wrinkles. But I've never done it totally without them...I just make sure they end up in a spot where you don't really see and your hands never hold.

I have had good luck with cats eye cloth wrap. I start at the stem not the bar end like the instructions say. Start wraping on an angle that matches your wrap not strait over. Keep it tight from the start. overlap about 1/3. I stand over the top bar and wrap out, dont know if that makes a real differance but I find it easier to hold the bike and wheel steady so the bars stay still.

I usually start at the stem, too, and wrap towards the bike, pulling as tightly as possible. I also usually try to angle just a bit as too much will induce wrinkles for sure. Cotton is definitely much less forgiving than cork/rubber.

Well thanks for all the comments, I got it done and am satisfied. I have always started from the bar end and worked my way up, next them I will definitely try it from the stem. I think my fingers will be sore tomorrow. I was using aero levers so I was able to hide some of the excess near the cable (difficult to explain) but it cam out pretty good in the end. I'll have to take some pictures as FINALLY, the Faggin has it's final bars and a brake lever set up. The bike is equipped with cobalto brakes minus the nut (replaced with super records) and super record drive train, the hubs are mavic and the shifters are retro friction. I could have made it full super record but this bike it a rider and I decided I might as well go with the best components from the period. I'll have to update my wool jersey album.

Obviously, he isn't using Cats Eye. :D

Wish I knew a good source for that stuff. The last set of bars I wrapped (with brand X) was quite the ordeal. :o

cycle circle has it down here but only in black. I like the black it matches just about any color
