Cleaning out the stable for a good cause
Well, I've got the itch. I really have too many bikes. most of them are cheap department store bikes, some are low end vintage. I also ended up with some kids bikes too. This year I'm riding in the Tour de Cure and I came up with an idea. I'm going to sell off some of my "extra" bikes on Craigslist to raise donations for my Tour de Cure team. so far I have listed 3 kids bikes for $15-$20 each and I put in my ad that a donation will be made in the name of the buyer. I hope this works and I hope to have more posted later. I've got a nice 1973 Campus Green 3 speed Breeze that I'd like to sell, a few small (24" wheels) MTBs and a Schwinn Caliente road bike with 24" wheels. The Breeze might sell for a fair amount if I write the ad properly and post good pics. I certainly will not ask $200 or $300 like the other 2 3 speed breezes on Detroit CL are listed for.
Anyone else riding in the Tour de Cure? anyone else flipping bikes as a fundraising strategy? I figure every dollar helps and it helps me to get some of these bikes to new homes where they will be used. |
Great idea for a good cause. When does this event take place and where. I am over in Windsor might check it out. Good luck.

go to www.diabetes.org/tour for more info. My team is only doing the 15 mile ride, but if you'd like to join you can use the link in my signature, or search for the team named Frog Legs. |
Not bikes, but there is a guy near me that picks up old lawn mowers and fixes them to sell to raise money for his church youth group. He has donated a couple thousand dollars so far. I don't see why you couldn't do the same thing picking up free or cheap bikes to fix and resell.
