Need help identifying this bike!
Hey everyone, I recently got into biking and unfortunately, had a brand new Diamondback stolen from me after only having it for a month (a $400 lesson on the disadvantages of a chain lock...).
Anyways, after that heartbreak, I decided to purchase an old Cannondale bike off of Craigslist. The seller claimed it was around 10 years old but I think it's much older. The downtube says "3.0 Series, Made in the USA" and the bike has been fitted with mountain bike tires and some Shimano DeoreLX componentry. I will post pictures of the bike as soon as I get home (I'm in a university computer cluster right now...). If you guys know anything about this bike, I would appreciate the information. I was able to locate the serial# but don't remember it off the top of my head. Oddly enough, it begins in a 0, instead of indicating the frame size as I *believe* most Cannondale's do? Anyways, I would like to install some newer componentry and repair this bike! I am lucky enough to live in Pittsburgh and will be taking advantage of one of their "freeride" programs to get access to knowledge and tools to help me fix it up. I would like to know if it is possible to install a suspension style front fork and maybe a new rear cassette. Please let me know if anyone knows anything about this! Pictures will be posted ASAP! Thanks for helping a newbie biker! |
The 3.0 refers to the weight of the frame, 3.0 pounds.
This bike was probably from the early 90s. There are a number of upgrades available, such as the suspesion fork if you are so inclined, a new cassette, or whatever you want. Your local bike shop is a good source for advice on upgrades, etc. |
Hey calf_man, thanks for the response!
Here are some pictures of the bike. I read in a few other threads that this bike may have a 126mm rear spacing and may not be able to accomodate 9 speed cassettes. It currently has a 7 speed. Does anyone know of anything like this? Maybe the pictures will help... http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/7...2070220yb9.jpg http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/7...2070221io0.jpg http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/7...2070222ci7.jpg http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5...2070225pp4.jpg Thanks!! |
Oh and another note, the serial number is:
01811890091 I have no idea what this means. It doesn't match any of the information I found on other threads. Any ideas?? Thanks again! |
