Oil gizmo

I have a internal 3 speed giro thing. It has been siting around for a long time and the gears are dri as a bone! There is a cap on top of the hub to lub it up from. So my questions are; what do you use to inject the oil and what typ of oil? Sheldon bown has been a big help but dosnt explan to the inexperienced well.

If you need picturs to see what I am trying to explan I can get some. Thank you for any help

You can get a little can of 3-in-1 oil from the hardware store with a pointy tip that will work just fine.

I've been using an eye dropper full of 30 weight on my 3 speeds.

Sometimes, you can dip the end of a small screwdriver in some oil & drip it into place. A bit slow, but it'll work. Or maybe just buy a small oil can at the hardware store?

I wouldn't use 3-1. It's OLD technology and a little thin. Even cheap motor oil is better.

Thanks Leo

An old Sturmey Archer pamphlet I have recommends 20 weight oil, and you can use an eye dropper to put it in the oiler hole. You only need a 5 or 6 drops.

This 3 speed is on a old AMF Hercules I bought at a yard sale for $5. I am cleaning it up because it has been sitting around for awile. Im just repacking bearings, instaling new brakes and stuff like that.

So be prepared for more questions! Thanks Leo
