I Need Help!!!
I almost sold my dads old Peugeot today, but the guy said it was probably a valuable bike. I know it has all of its origional components, everything except the org. seat and pump. I believe that it is a 1975 or 1976 PR-10. The serial # is 2063235, if you can help me ID it that would be great! It has the shield and org. pain job, minus a few chips. It is well used and has been all over the world, but everything appears to be in tip top condition. Any ideas on value? (Now that I know it is a nice bike I might not want to sell it, but I do want to know whether or not it is worth it to keep)

photos will be asked for so it might as well be me. Check ebay to see what similar bikes go for. Peugeots that I've seen on ebay go for a couple hundred or so. I got a pk10 last year for $1 but thats just me. i'm not sure what a pr10 looks like or what parts it has.

It is dirty right now, probably would look nicer if I cleaned it up....

Nice looking tight racing geometry, never saw a peugeot with that kinda head tube angle before, look how close the front wheel is to the downtube!

It is a 1975 pr-10 , it looks very good , with a nice clean will be better. For me bikes like that are priceless is a classic bike and you have the provilege to ride it :)

Maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but that doesn't look right to me, there's something on both the TT and DT near the head tube, maybe it's just tape...check the front end, or rather have someone experienced check it. Or just post a pic taken from a lower vantage point and close-up of those tube-areas so we can rest assured.

Is this a better picture? It has absolutely no accident damage, presumably because it has never been in an accident. It was my dads bike, he bought it new and used it into the late 80's until he got into mountain biking, since then my brother and I both have used it when we were college. I always thought it felt like flying when I would ride it, but I've never had anything to compare it to (never riden another racing/road bike). Never knew it was worth anything.

The areas that may appear to be tape are black paint, you can see in this picture where it is chipped.

No that pic doesn't do it, the areas in question are those the pointers point to...since you say it's never crashed, I'm going to say it's just an unusual picture angle and/or an unusually steep head angle...but check these areas for any bumps or wrinkling:

You can see in the very first picture I posted a spot where there used to be a sticker. I guess it could look like tape. No wrinkling on the bike, my camera battery just died, I can take more pictures tommorow.

Here are a ton of scans from old peugeot catalogues, yours has gotta be pre-76 as it looks like they stopped painting the head tube lugs after 1975.

What is the value of a 1975 PR-10 in this condition? I would describe it as fair, with new tape on the handlebars and a new saddle it will look a lot nicer.

I have an unidentified french frame with a steep HT angle and the same lugs. Two questions - what does the DT shifter clamp-stop braze on look like (under the down tube). Are there any holes in the underside of your bottom bracket shell? Thanks for the info.
And that missing sticker was probably a Reynolds frame tubing sticker. |
Yeah it looks perfectly fine.
Its worth whatever someones willing to pay for it really.. I'd guess anywhere between $100-$200 is resonably fair if you're trying to sell it to someone who is into vintage bikes and wants one, on the other hand If you had a yard sale and you put a price tag like that on it you would probably get laughed at. If you're wanting to sell it locally the amount you could get for it will vary depending on where you live. New york city, frisco tends to bring in a %5 million percent price increase it seems. If you wanna go the eBay route you can probably get a bit more than what its worth with a good description and great photographs, list all the frame measurements and components etc and offer world wide shipping. |
I would agree with devineandbright on the value. Bike is roughly equivalent to Raleigh Supercourse frame-wise, but with what I think are better components (alloy stronglight crank, worth $50 by itself if on ebay). $150 to $200 would be a fair "ebay price", shipping included. I have one hanging in my garage, cool looking black lugs on white bike. Of course, I lucked into mine at the thrift store for $30, so I would not personally pay that much for one (thrift stores and yard sales pretty much ruin you for wanting to pay "ebay" on old bikes!)

THanks for all the info! I have decided to put a little money into it and fix it up! I know it probably needs new rims and tires, a new seat and new handlebars, what else is good to upgrade on these old Puegeots?

Get the rims trued, and leave them on. Unless they're really wobbly, they look fine. IE: not dulled out, or rusty spokes, etc.. I would go for the new tires and tubes, for sure. No need to worry about them while "flying":). Maybe some cables and housings if you can find new equivalents. Nice bike!!,,,BD
