What to do with peeling chrome???

Ok, I know this bike probably isnt the norm in the C&V forum, but the question pertains more to this forum than the BMX forum.

I scored this 1987 Mongoose Decade Pro, its all original except for tires. Its got a dual freewheel for fixed or freewheel riding. Overall it’s in great shape, except the chrome on the drive side seat stay. What are my options here? The frame is 100% chromed, the pink is painted over chrome. The pink paint is in fantastic shape. Is it possible to re-chrome only a portion of a frame? I would guess no. Any options here????

BTW, this bike makes me feel just like a kid again, I was sooooo into BMX in this era. I think I bought it mostly out of nostalgia.

Sweet bike. Remove the rust with oxalic acid and remove the flaking chrome with a brass brush (it won't scratch the remaining chrome).

To use a commercial rechroming place, they will have to strip the whole bike as you thought otherwise they would contaminate their plating tanks.

I have never used it personally but I have heard it does a decent job. And for $35, you won't be out a lot if it fails. Please post your results.
