The "after" pic and a Sturmey-Archer question
After a good scrubbing and a bit of wax and polish I have a nice looking 1973 CCM 3-speed ready for Mothers Day to give to the wife.
Anyway, while I was tuning it up I screwed with the rear cable that goes to the hub. At first it had no second gear at all. After fiddling with it I have all three gears working but it makes a "click click click" as you ride along in 2nd or 3rd gear.
Is that normal operation for this hub?

Your wife should be very happy, that looks sweet!
I think some clicking is normal, but I forget in which gears...
Check this out for information on adjusting the cable:

Yes, clicking is normal in 2nd and 3rd gears. These are sometimes marked N and H on the shifter, because the hub has a Low, Normal, and High gear. I read an explanation somewhere about the inner workings of the SA hub and why it clicks when going forward, but I can't recall where. That is a nice looking bike, I hope she likes it.

Thanks for the advice.
I wished I had read the info on that site before "adjusting" the cable on the rear hub.
Anway, as it is working fine and the clicking is normal I won't be digging into this problem any further.

Where are you located? I saw an identical CCM at an estate sale recently in NJ.
EDIT: After further research (finding your post on the 3-speed thread), I've concluded from evidence on a disposal bin that you are quite a distance from New Jersey! However, a nearly identical Canadian bike made it all the way down here. Though the asking price was US$10 and the condition immaculate, I passed it up for want of storage space.

That is a beauty, your wife should be very happy! From what I have read if the clicking is loud it may mean the hub is a little dry, might put a few drops of 30 weight in the oil port.

And I paid $20 Canadian which is about $17 U.S. So not as good a deal as the New Jersey bike!
