I would really like a late 80s or early 90s Waterford Paramount.

I've been lusting after a Raleigh Professional, road or track, they are both beautiful. I know they are not very exotic, but then neither am I.

70s Richard Sachs, pale blue, 57 c-t. Full Nuovo Record.

+1 for the curly Hetchins!
Have to admit that that's been at the top of my list for a couple decades now.
I saw a guy out riding one, a yellow one, just last week, in Santa Cruz area.

Pine, pine, pine! :p

The Hetchins my drama teacher from several years ago has/had always made me smile.
When built for him, his name & location were added to the paintjob & clearcoated.
Conrad XXXXXX, Big Spur.

That should be Big Sur! (This IS the C&V forum, so y'all know where THAT is, right?) ;)

So even the best can make a "mistake" once in a while! :D

And it was gloss black w/chrome lugs. And my size. And all Campy.
And HE will NEVER sell it.
Good thing he's local, I may get it at an estate sale.

But then when I think about it, there was that Ferrari Colnago that I saw at Interbike....

Tough call, good thing I don't really have to make it. :p

Maybe I'll just wander out to the LBS and haggle for one of the Confente's!

Nuovo Record pedals are pretty wide, are you sure you want a frame with 8cm of drop with that set up? For the new stuff a case can be made for the low BB, as the actual lean angle to where a pedal down stroke would hit might be tolerable, depending on pedal and crank length choice. I would tear up a pair of pedals with that vintage set up and such a big drop, while it probably decends well, there are more 90°corners than hills. Order his latest lug set, everything else is just too close to what has come before, even that is not a breakthrough, but different from what most others are doing currently.

Hell, any mid 80's to early 90's columbus framed Italian road bike would be welcome in my stable.

but specifically I'd like to have a late 80's Bottechia or a Masi (that dont have to be a 'gran criterium) along with a Tommasini 'Super Prestige. Then you have Guerciottis' and Colnagos' and Pinarellos' and all the other fine Italian bikes that makes me drool and get all misty eyed over.

Sometimes its hopeless. I'll always be 'love sick' over these bikes. :D

Miyata 1000 fully decked out for touring

I second the Masi Grand Criterium... hell give me any high end of the top 3 Italian brands (Masi, Derosa, Cinelli) from the 70s and Id be happy!

Must be Boyer's shop?

For a Hetchins, a Hellenic stayed one... The Hetchins registry showed not too many of those unfortunately.

Reading this thread has me thinking I need to stop searching and hunting since I either have, or have had, any of the bikes being mentioned as "wants"

Have:

De Rosa ( Molteni Team)
Merckx Corsa
Merckx Corsa Extra (7 - 11 Team)
Colnago Mexico
Holdsworth Professional ( in Claud Butler trim)
Guerciotti

Have Had:

Miyata 1000
Dave Moulton

I think maybe I should stop looking and just ride what I have.

Having said that - I really want something lugged and steel with a double plate fork crown.

I got "the De Rosa" by total luck. I was lurking on ebay a few years ago for a 58 or 60 from the late 80's early 90's and as I was in the mist of bidding the seller contacted me and said his brother went to school with me, long story short for 1000 dollars I got a new never been used (confirmed never ridden) EL-OS Primato from the early 90s with STI's (perhaps the first year of STI) and I love this bike, long days in the saddle are not an issue. I still prefer the De Rosa to my all my other bikes incuding an 853 Paramont and late 80's Guerciotti, a Giant, Cannondale etc , however the Guerciotti is second best.

steppy

moki 05-03-07 12:02 AM

Jeez, just one? Sachs cyclocross comes to mind. As does an Alex Singer and a chrome Herse Camping. Condor Path racer. Yeti ARC. Mantis x frame. Merlin. Pogliaghi track. Bruce Gordon full blooded tourer. Willier Triestina.

that should about do it. for now...

Yes, his shop is just over my back fence. (and a few hundred yards down the runway) ;)

I now have 2 of the 3. :D

and not the middle one...:p

Cinelli, within a few years (either direction) of 1970. In silver with the old-school decals, the colored hed badge, and the custom Cinelli-badged fenders that everyone used to throw away.

By 1975, Eddy was on De Rosas and not Colnagos, mainly because Ernesto refused to build for him any more after Eddy's little stunt in Mexico City in 1972. Sgr. Colnago had built the lightest, trickest, most outrageous machine the existing technology allowed specifically for Merckx's Hour Record attempt. No decals were on it, but Ernesto figured that the cognescenti would know who had built it. Shortly before the record attempt was to start, someone from Windsor approched Eddy and offered him a few schekels if he'd let them put Windsor stickers on the bike. Pay for racers - even for Eddy - was nothing like what top riders get now, and Eddy, first and foremost, was always out to earn a bob or two. He said yes. Windsor touted how Merckx had set the Hour Record "on Windsor." Colnago threw an Italian-style fit, swearing he would never build for Eddy again.

From 1973 on, Eddy was on De Rosas.

FLBandit 05-03-07 07:44 AM

Yeah, I wasn't positive what is was. The article seemed to imply Colnago. Either way. I LOVE that Bike.

Do you know if George Farrier is still around?

Mariner Fan 05-04-07 05:33 AM

My desire for a frame changes all the time.

Lately, I've been thinking of getting a touring frame so I'm lusting over:

Miyata 1000 or a Trek 720.

Hard to find, these frames.

oopfoo 05-04-07 11:52 AM

Lessee...I GOT 3 of them:
1985 Serotta Nova Special
1985 Vitus 979
1987 Schwinn Paramount

Now, I NEED a couple more:
1970's Pogliaghi
Eddy Merckx MX Leader
Cinelli Supercorsa of ANY vintage
Serotta-built Huffy a la 7-Eleven

The chief problem is less being able to afford them than simply being able to slip them past the wife. :)

Anyway, with those 3, I'd probably call it quits. I guess I'm just collecting the bikes that my favorite pros always rode.

Pre-Piagio Bianchi Super Corsa

Hmmm.....good question!

I would say my dream frame would be the Paramount P15-9 touring.....probably a '72 in campus green.
WAIT! I already HAVE one of those.....

Ok...let's try again......how about an '89 Waterford Paramount frame in that awesome candy red?
Aw Crap....I already have one of those , too.....;^)

(sorry, I coulnd't resist!) I am very fortunate to actually OWN my dream bikes!

As are the '88's. :D

I'd like a mid 80's Tommasini SL Comp in the Quattro Colori paint scheme.
