how to remove record levers from the bodies
I want to strip the anodizing and polish a set of scratched NR levers, can they be easily removed from the bodies? How?
thanks |
Looking at them from the front with the lever open you can see a set screw inside. Remove that and it will release the pin holding the lever to the body.
I have no idea how to get the cable stop out of the lever though, which would help when polishing. It tends to get burnished pretty bad otherwise. |
i removed that screw, I couldn't get the pin to come out easily, I don't want to start hammering, I guess I will have to try it again, but I did it on two levers and nothing....

the cable stop also pops out with some gentle tapping..
i've removed them to dress up some badly crashed levers |
I'll have to try and go about it gently... The levers are the old kind with the circular cable insertion hole on the underside, I am sort of flip flopping on whether or not to polish them out, but I think they will look better polished than rashed, even if it fades the campy logo slightly.

If the rash is bad go all the way, polish and drill them. Nice big center holes like Eddy so you won't see the logo.
The round cable hole levers are rare, but if they are damaged the value is pretty much shot anyway. |

And the price was right! ;) I would say cover the logo with a small piece of duct tape, and polish from the center of the tape outward. Yes, you'll probably have to replace the tape several times, but the logo should be preserved on "rare" levers. Once the rest of the lever has a nice shine, carefully polish the area around the logo. |
