Hoods, replace or new set???
I am now the pround owner of a Centurion Expert which has been a awesome bike so far. The red and white frame color seems to work well on this bike for some reason.
It is all Shimano 105 on the bike and all in good condition with the exception of the brake hoods, cables, housing, and brake pads. It should be extremely easy to replace everything but finding hoods is giving me problems. I have looked for aero hoods just about everywhere (even Ebay) and have been coming up dry every time. The gum or plastic, I don't know which it is, has degraded to a series of pock marks that are sticky and not all that great feeling on the hand. Any leads on a good source for 105 hoods or should I look at the Nashbar's selection of complete aero brake sets. |
To be honest, the chances of finding a pair of 105 levers with hoods already on them is probably your best bet. I had the same situation and bought a pair of levers with hoods on EBAY for $12.
Here's a link for hoods but depends how much you're willing to pay. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Old-Stock-Sh...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Old-Stock-Sh...QQcmdZViewItem |
I've had good luck at www.loosescrews.com for brake hoods. A new set of Shimano Tiagra aero brake levers would be a good match at not much more $ than new hoods.
