Help ID this Pinarello Montello
This came into my possession a few hours ago. The person selling it is retiring and moving to a motor-home fulltime. Gave me pretty much everything he has bike wise, 2 sets of wheels - a Chorus hub/mavic rim and a bladed Record hub/campag rim, 2 extra chain rings, platform pedals - All Campagnolo as well as Park mechanic work stand, a box of Park tools, truing stand, jersey... I am still in shock.
The bike is in great condition, the decals are all intact! Apparently all components were Chorus but he upgraded all to C-Record. One set of wheels had the original Chorus hubs. I figure it would be around 1990, but the the shifters were ergo and I thought the Delta brakes were before 90's.
It is raining outside, the guy even drove me 30km home! I can't get a clean photo of it. I am going to post some indoor shots using flash and hopefully learn as much about it as possible. I haven't a chance to ride it yet. It would appear to be an inch smaller than my other ride. 52cm CC 53cm top tube according to the previous owner.
The aero bar will come off for good, as well as the tape, and I will start to strip and regrease all the components...
Now can any Campy expert help me out here. I have 2 sets of each of these pedals. I think they are all Chorus, different year but I am not certain. Can any one help? I prefer "B" better and suspect it could also be Athena. HELP! "B" ay actually be Record! from the 1987 Catalog I just managed to find.
Thanks in advance.

Wow, that's definitely a "Best Buy" ever. Just needs a bit of cleanup & adjustments to personalize it. You have a lifetime keeper.

Careful not to smash the top tube/rip up decals when you clamp the frame in the stand.

I've been looking for a 1990 Pinarello Montello for a while now in 56cm. All I can tell you is it is most likely older then a 1990 like 55/rad said.

Sweet bike Oink. One of the best vintage bikes made. Great score!

It looks almost identical to the ones shown in 89 catalog as opposed to the ones in 87 catalog
https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello89/2.jpg
The translucent paint job almost appear pink, but it would be a crime to strip it to chrome, considering the state of the decals. The only decal that seem to have come off is the one on the down tube something about "Olympic champion".
The stem is engraved Cinelli 1R with 40cm Giro D'Italia (64) bar. I hope to swap it with a 45cm.
Thanks for mentioning the bike stand clamping. I would have missed that. Phew

Odd, the exact same frameset but in a 60 showed up on the Toronto CL today. It would fit me but I alreay have a nice Ciocc in a 60. Is it worth 400$CDN? It sure looks purty.

That sure is strange. According to the previous owner, Rossi of Rossi Bike in Lachine, owns the other of the same paint style. I thought (quoting someone else...) "finding a Pinarello with decals in good condition is a miracle" ... Mine was advertised on Sunday.
I was looking at a late 70's Marinoni and almost bought it. An identical bike with the same non-too-attractive blue came on ebay but it was in Calgary, different size and slightly different derailleur - Super and Nuvo Record.

I wish there was a registry/record of the serial numbers. Does it mean that your serial # is something like "ZZ88"? I took another look but it seems Pinarello has a different badge for the 87 models - no blue border around the center graphic.
That sand blasted chrome one of yours is stunning!

Fyi, here is a source for the 3.5 mm allen key. Apparently it was also used on Lambretta scooters.

It appears I will need a new set of cables just to reattach back on the delta calipers!

The amount of dried grease! Luckily I only took it out for a quick spin around the hood before rain returns. The handle bar, headset and saddle are cleaned up and ready to install. Servicing the deltas, bottom bracket next. It si coming together slowly.
Just noticed the rohloff slt 99 chain, hurray, more bragging rights. Also id'ed the speedplay model - X/2 Stainless...

Sexiest brakes ever.
Amazing find, I hope you cherish that bike and pass it down through generations of your offspring which will be cycling from birth.

We live in Metric-land! I was in my tiny neighbourhood store and noticed they had 3.5mm allen key for like $2 a pop as well as 7mm I would need for my cranks. I was just about to bid for a set on ebay, and pay $25 to ship!

I think your pedals might be Victory pedals, but, there may have been some interchangeability between groups during the late 80's.
I know that mine are Victory, but the differences are subtle:
