My new '59 Carlton

It's a a '59, according to the serial number. I'm not sure of the model, but I think it's a Super Catalina. The tubing is probably Reynolds 531. It has a grease fitting on the BB. The fork is from a '76 Raleigh Competition.
Crankset: T.A. Professional 3-pin.
Bottom Bracket: Miche Primato (adjustable chainline)

The paint is 30% flat urethane (Hot Rod Flatz)
It's going to get a new wheelset with a SA hub when I build up the bike fund again.
I might even sell my PX10.

That is a sweet looking bike... You must take good photos because that bike looks far from "Far from finished" to me.

Is the chrome original? It looks great. I love the colour too.. making me wish I had the money to chrome Corky.

I think I got the grips at Jitensha Studio. They're probably the same as the one Rivendell sells. They're all mad in Taiwan. I attempted to match the saddle by staining the grips. I have a lot of stains in the cabinet, and I'm not sure which I used. It was an orange-ish color, possibly colonial maple, followed by walnut and then clear shellac.

I got a lot of advice from Dr. D on that paintjob and I really appreciate it. I may try painting a bike again, but I can assure you that it won't be one with fancy chrome lugs!

The picture probably makes the chrome look better than it really is. Still, it's in amazing condition considering that it's 48 years old.

I haven't decided if I want to decal it. I made no attempt to do a restoration. I'm going for sort of a "rat rod" look. That's one reason why I used flat paint. Most bikes have too many decals for my taste. Maybe just downtube decals, like a Rivendell or Ebisu.

Looks great! I really like the look of that paint--makes me regret going for high gloss black on my latest project.

Well, I have 2 recently acquired Carlton frames. One has already been repainted so I plan to repaint and decal, the other is still original though beat and I'll jusy leave it alone!
