Getting new rims on my Schwinn World Sport?
I have an old Schwinn World Sport from 1979. The rims are in pretty bad shape, and I think once they are replaced I'm in business as far as a smooth ride goes. When I apply both the front and back brake, the bike "stutters" to a stop as the pads hit the rim. Anyways, the sizing according to the website on the tires is 27" x 1.25. Does that mean when looking for new rims I'm confined to this same 27" x 1.25 size? I assume when they say tires, the rims are the same size. One other thing worth noting, and I'm not sure if this will play a part in what new rims I choose, but the front tire oddly enough is quick release with the skewer, while the back wheel has bolts on both sides that need unscrewing when removing the wheel. I also wonder what I'm looking at as far as cost. I just want something durable and medium weight. Also, the rear wheel is a 5 cog wheel. Thanks! Also I apologize if my terminology is off.

Pinetree, welcome! Let me suggest the 27" Alex Rims I used to build new wheels on my '62 Continental. They are alloy, about the same width as your original rims, and not real expensive. Nashbar used to carry them, but no longer. Do a Google search and they still come up. You can use the same hubs you have or another set. Here's what mine look like:

I can't seem to find the 27" alex rims on the internet for sale. Everything seems to be 700c, or 26" x 1.75 or around there. Any recommendations?

The Sun CR18 comes in 27" and is quite a wide, boxed shape: https://www.lickbike.com/productpage.aspx?PART_NUM_SUB='2088-36'

If your cheap like me. I picked up a lightly used World Sport at Goodwill for $25 + tax, its wheels were in very good shape and I put them on my Continental. After removing the other parts I wanted I sold the frame for $25 on Craigslist. So I guess I got the wheels for a buck or so in tax. Everytime I go to Goodwill here in CO they have numerous old bikes with 27x1 1/4 rims, often in good shape and cheap.
